Hi my name is Kei-shun and I’m a tenor. I have a non straining vocal range from G#2-E4. My music teacher, Daniel Henry, told me that I have the quality of a tenor one, so I sing tenor one. When I was 14 I could sing cheat voice to C5 with no problem. Now I’m 17 I start to strain going pass E4, as if my voice tries to go into head tone. If I sing soft I can sing to C5, but when I sing tenor one in the choir can’t get pass the E4; it would sound throaty and straining. I want to know how could I train myself to sing between F4-C5 with no problem, so I could be a tenor one like I want to be.
Be mindful of tempos and keys. Every decade of your adult life (between ages 15-25, again at 25-35 and again after 50) your vocal timbre and range is different. You have to allow for these changes in adjusting keys, tempos and song selection.

A very useful framework for practising vocal control is solfa (a.k.a. “solfege” or “do re mi”). This is a system where you give a name to each note in the scale, which makes it easier to understand which note you’re aiming for each time you change pitch.
As @luserdroog said in the comments, it would be best if you could get at least a couple lessons. Otherwise you risk learning bad habits with the physical aspects (that can’t be taught well except in person) that you’ll have to un-learn later.

There are several great range exercises to try as you’re working on scales. These exercises should be part of your warm-up before working on an actual vocal piece. You can find many different warm-up exercises in between singing classes on YouTube.
Aside from the exercises and worksheets, the great thing about the training program is that you can get additional advice from real expert vocal coaches. Whether you are stuck with a problem, or you need some enlightenment on difficult subjects, you can ask the staff questions about anything.
Lip Trills: Release lip tension and connects breathing and speaking. Releases tension in the vocal folds. Place your lips loosely together release the air in a steady stream to create a trill or raspberry sound. First try it on an “h” sounds. Then repeat on a “b” sound. Hold the sound steady and keep the air moving past the lips. Next try to repeat the b-trill gliding gently up and down the scales. Don’t push beyond what it comfortable at the top or bottom of the scale.
For clarinet and oboe students I like to compliment what their band/orchestra director is using when possible. I also love the Klose method for clarinet. The Rubank is also a tried and true book I use. I’ve had a lot of success with these books.
Your chest voice is usually a deep sound produced at the lower part of one’s range. Head voice is softer and more gentle. Likewise, mask voice is a combination of the 2 and you can feel this vibration slightly below the eyes on the bones of your cheeks when you are singing in this register. Registers are simply the prospect of getting as many parts of your body in vibration as you sing. You will be able to know which register you are in because there is something called a “break” in your voice from one register to the next. Sing a note that is in the lower end of your range. As if a siren, move the pitch you are singing upward, allowing it to rise. If you go high enough, and depending on where you are with developing your vocal range, you will experience a “break” in the sound of your “siren” where the vocal sound gets cut off. This is natural, and we all have this “break.” The range of your voice before you reached this break was sung in chest register. The sound produced after the break in a softer voice was sung in head register. Mask voice, which is in between the 2 distinguishing principles, was sung throughout the median pitches of your given range, before you reached the “break” point.

I bought this course and I started just couple of days ago. It is still early to say anything, but I am afraid that I will not be able to say: OK my voice is now better, I sing much better. I mean, how do I even know that I sing the tones correctly (for example in the warming exercises)? Inhale slowly and suspend your breath for a second or two, then let the air out with a steady “hiss” sound. Listen to the hiss and make sure there are no bursts of air making the hiss louder or faster. Keep your exhalation steady.
Without a doubt, you’ll find parts you weren’t happy with. Don’t criticise yourself for this! Every negative thing you notice is an opportunity to improve. Like when you found out you weren’t tone deaf, this just shows that you have the awareness you need to be able to improve. Exciting!
Hey, I know you published this ages ago, but I hope you will still see and hopefully answer this question. Is this course just for people with absolutely no singing skill, or just those looking to improve? Because I have never had lessons, but I naturally have a sense of pitch, my voice is just not very powerful – is it still worth the money? I want to be able to sing better With my guitar.
That’s probably the biggest problem with learning to sing: that we start out with the wrong idea, that singing is a natural talent you need to be born with. It really isn’t. Just ask George Bevan, director of the Choir Who Can’t Sing, who specialises in helping people who think they “can’t sing” discover that they actually can.
When selecting the person who will help you achieve greatness and eventually get into a program or school of your dreams, look for someone who has managed to work as a Singer or Vocalist of some kind before. They will have a better idea of what actually works in real life, and they’ll not only be able to prep you for classes, auditions, and performances, but they probably also have plenty of advice when it comes to nailing those auditions, doing well in school, and building a career.

In the Rockshow program, you are matched with other musicians at similar skill levels. (: As to your question, yes, I also had some experience before taking it and it still helped me out a lot. Doing the exercises every day for 8 weeks will definitely improve you and give you a larger sense of confidence in your singing. As to the price, based on the fact that it’s a full course for the price of two-three lessons with a real teacher – for me it was easily worth it.
