I strive to break bad habits, teach correct singing, and establish good technique. I have taught opera and pop styles, though I’m open to anything! My main focus is to get the student to sing correctly and efficiently. After that, style choice can come into play. With the correct technique, you can sing anything!
Although singing isn’t the most difficult skill to learn, it’s definitely more complex than it seems. To some learners, singing comes naturally and they can create beautiful vocals with very little practice or effort.
The vocal coaching field is competitive, especially at the highest professional levels. Salaries vary greatly, as do the conditions of work. While a small number of top vocal coaches can command very high hourly or daily rates, most vocal coaches, like most other music and arts professionals, tend to have salaries which are below the average for other professions which require a similar amount of education and experience, such as economists or bank managers. The work conditions vary widely, from part-time or occasional freelance work for individual singers, opera companies, or record companies, to full-time contracts or multi-year jobs for universities (coaching vocal performance students and students in opera courses) or music theater companies.
When selecting the person who will help you achieve greatness and eventually get into a program or school of your dreams, look for someone who has managed to work as a Singer or Vocalist of some kind before.
Module 8 is the last module in this course. Well, it’s not the last module because there are supplemental courses included in the Superior Singing Method. It is, however, the last content in the main course. By the 8th week of this course, I guarantee that you will have a great voice, and you will wish there will be eight more modules.

I have taught acting to small children, teens, and adults in community, private, and collegiate settings. I taught acting at the legendary Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute in New York City. My love of the arts has enabled me to study and perform in various cities throughout the US; including Los Angeles, where I studied at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute, to Europe, Mexico, South America; then back to New York City, where I earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in Acting from the prestigious Actors Studio Drama School.
If you are beginning the search for a Vocal Coach, you are probably also just getting started as a Singer. I hate to say it, but there are a lot of shocks, surprises, and quite a few disappointments coming your way. It is simply the way of the world, and certainly of this business in particular.
Can you match pitch? If so, just try singing single notes, you don’t even have to know how to play piano, just hit one random key at a time try to sing the pitch. (A good place to start is the middle of the piano and go up if you’re a female or down if you’re a male.) Also, sing what you like. It’s a lot easier to do something that you enjoy. I don’t enjoy basketball, so I don’t play/practice it. That doesn’t mean I don’t get any exercise whatsoever, though. I just do what I find enjoyable.
Digitally or through online singing lessons (e.g., via Skype or Facetime) in which audio or video is transmitted of the instructor singing and the student imitates the instructor. The instructor can also hear the student sing and provide coaching on her or his singing. In most cases, there is a small delay in the audio transmitted during digital voice lessons so the instructor is not able to actively accompany the student. Instead, the voice teacher plays a tone or chord and demonstrates the scale or exercises which he wishes for the student to sing. The student then imitates the instructor. The instructor can then modulate the scale upwards while the student follows singing the same scale pattern.
Your vocal chords are composed of muscles. Before you strain it with your singing, make sure that you are able to stretch it and warm it up ahead, just like what you need to do when exercising muscles in other parts of the body.

A. You have the easiest problem for me to solve. My techniques utilize  a whole new genre of voice exercises that work your tone, diction and vowels for pop placement and other modern styles, but retains the flexibility you’ve developed so far. I invented this technique for this exact type of change over, and it really works.
Start by practicing with a backing track. You can normally find karaoke versions of popular songs on YouTube, or if necessary you can use the regular studio version, singing along with the lead singer. Begin with just a short section of the song, for example just the chorus.
There’s a lot to remember as you’re learning to sing, but once you’ve mastered a few simple techniques, you’ll notice your voice getting stronger and better each day. Let’s review 10 things you need to know to become the best singer you can be!
In terms of memorization, think of a song in a simple sequence. If I were trying to memorize the pre-chorus of “Beyond Me”, I would think “first stars, then water, then need, then see.” I learn new songs in under a week this way. (And old songs in 24 hours on the high end.)

The key to this exercise is to make sure you are listening carefully as you practice. Don’t just rely on the tuner’s display. Try to always hear whether you are too high or too low before checking the display. That way you are gradually developing your own inner tuner so that in future your feedback loop can work directly without the assistance of a digital tuner.
The soft pallet should always be raised. The object is to leave as much hollow space on the inner part of your mouth, so as to produce a sound that is round and full. Lower your tongue, allowing it to rest on the bottom of the mouth. Elongate the jaw slightly. Your lips should form a small, round, circular, shape. Be sure not to open your mouth too much, as it may block the hollow passage of the roof of your mouth.
Arms – When you aren’t gesturing, you should be relaxing your arms at your sides. Don’t make fists, clasp your hands, or fidget with your clothes. This adds tension and makes you look (and feel) nervous.
This is as true when it comes to business or writing or almost any other field as it is for singing, and it’s important to keep this in mind when looking for a Vocal Coach. Would you rather train with someone who has spent many years exclusively teaching young people how to sing or with someone who was actually a professional Singer for many years and who then transitioned into being a Teacher or Professor? Ideally, your coach would have tons of experience in both roles, but that’s difficult to find and if you have to choose just one, go for the latter.
I know that for me, I enjoy getting to put the spotlight on my students. I also like haveing concerts for my students to be able to demonstrate their skills for their friends and family. I also can work with students of any age, starting at about age 5 through age 100+. My experiences with teaching children gives me the ability to teach even very young students.
Try practicing holding a note and keeping it steady and clear, using your diaphragm. But controlling your voice is all about learning your vocal strengths and building on them. Practice, practice, practice! What worked for me was picking a song that fit my vocal range and tone, then singing along with that. Recording yourself practicing is great, because then you can listen back and look at the areas where you could have been stronger, or held a note more clearly, then repeat. I guarantee after the first few recordings you’ll notice the difference. I have a very soft voice, but have been able to strengthen it.
Try not to avoid the warm up. Begin at Middle C on the piano and gradually work your way all over the scale. Know your reach and its limits. Ugh, I wish I could sing. I want to get into theatre acting (its my first job choice, I do have backups) but being able to sing is something that would really help me as musical theatre is big in the industry (well, where I live, its the only kind of theatre) and yeah. Its not shyness or anything like that because when I do perform, I am the most confident person ever its just my singing voice sounds like 100 cats being strangled :/ is there anything that could help me?
I liked the idea, but the execution is severely lacking in what could be considered instructional guidance. There is no description of what you are supposed to do or achieve in the exercises. There is no explanation of the score you recieve, or how to improve. The songs from which you chose your goal are very limited, and yet you need to have your own Spodify account to use the entire song. On top of that, the limited list doesn’t have a trade off, such as added lyrics to follow or well-separated vocal and backing tracks. When it’s time to sing with the music, you can barely hear the instruments. Very disappointing.

Relax. Don’t discourage him from practicing “because he’s going to learn bad habits.” That’s like saying to a kid who wants to play basketball, “don’t practice before you make the team, because you’re going to teach yourself bad habits.” Actually having practiced before seeing a teacher will make what the teacher says make a lot more sense/have relevance/be easier to learn. – bobobobo Jun 3 ’12 at 1:37

Accompaniment by a pianist is often part of vocal coaching. The vocal coach may double as a vocal coach and as an accompanist. In other cases, the vocal coach may hire an accompanist to play during the coaching sessions. Piano is one of the most common instruments used for accompaniment, as it can be used to play basslines, chords and melodies at the same time. Other instruments may also be used (e.g., guitar, Hammond organ, etc.) but are less common.
