To be honest, when you’re hitting the higher notes, you should be shifting from your chest to your head voice anyway, so you asthma is less of a problem for higher notes and more of a problem when singing constantly low. Primatene tablets at Walmart (they’re behind the counter so you have to ask but they’re not prescription) before you sing for a long time will help a lot.

Humming: Highlights anterior frontal vibrations in your lips, teeth and facial bones. Begin with lips gently closed with jaw released. Take an easy breath in and exhale while saying “hum”. Begin with the nasal sound /m/ and gently glide from a high to a low pitch as if you were sighing. Don’t forget your vocal cool down after extensive vocal use. Gently humming feeling the focus of the sound on the lips is an excellent way to cool down the voice. You should hum gentle glides on the sound “m” feeling a tickling vibration in the lip/nose are.
Since one set is for male singers and another set is for female singers, this vocal training will work best for those who want to learn how to sing or to improve their singing voice. On one hand, male vocalists usually need to warm up longer because they have a much wider vocal range within their chest voice compared to females.
Take a breath, think of a word like “who”, “where”, or “whah”, say it out aloud and don’t allow the vowel sound to finish. Keep the sound going (or resonating) for as long as possible – even after the count of one second you will be singing.
Relax. Can you match pitch? If so, just try singing single notes, you don’t even have to know how to play piano, just hit one random key at a time try to sing the pitch. (A good place to start is the middle of the piano and go up if you’re a female or down if you’re a male.) Also, sing what you like. It’s a lot easier to do something that you enjoy. I don’t enjoy basketball, so I don’t play/practice it. That doesn’t mean I don’t get any exercise whatsoever, though. I just do what I find enjoyable.

Correct breathing for singers begins with a spontaneous open breath. Upon inhalation, if ones hands are placed on the stomach – an inch below belly button, the hands will be pushed out by stomach muscles. The singer’s shoulders should be relaxed and not move up. Neck and jaw should be relaxed. Jaw needs to be unhinged. Phonation begins with the movement of the stomach inward, where one is singing while pulling the stomach muscles in. This is called “singing on the breath.” The phonation ends with the release of the abdominal muscles. It’s important to note that phonation should be ended with the release of the abs and not in one’s throat, which is vocally abusive.
All voice lessons focus on developing vocal range, pitch, tone production, breath control, enunciation, ear training, stage presence, and more. All lessons include warmup exercises to improve breath control and to avoid damaging the vocal chords. All students are encouraged to bring any recordings of their favorite songs, or to let their teacher know what song they want to sing.
