If I continue to take lessons and don’t give up after my first try, I will begin to see improvements. I can play some basic scales and maybe even some beginner music. I’m building the required skills and coordination to play the violin. The same sort of dedication and work is required to develop your voice.
You’ll need to summon a bit of grit to work through those first few awkward days of recording yourself. Almost everybody hates the sound of their voice when they first hear it on a recording. You need to remember that this is most just the discomfort of unfamiliarity – it’s not that your voice or singing is bad.
However in the US, unlike European nations such as Germany and England, the choir system for kids in school has been all but obliterated. Added to that lack, kids emulate the pop music they buy on CD, which doesn’t essentially develop a young voice properly. So we’re in a catch 22 about voice lessons and kids. But here are some guideposts:

Find your range. Your range is the measure of pitches you can sing between your lowest and highest notes. Try any number of classical musical scales (you can easily find them with a simple online search) and see which notes on the bottom and which notes on the top are impossible for you to clearly sing.
Hey There!! My name is Millie and I am a professional actress, singer, and songwriter. I have traveled all over the United States in Musical Theatre and have also worked as a jazz stylist and vocalist. I am able to teach the styles you hear on the radio, plus some. Country, Riffing, Belting, are all specialties that I can teach. I can help your music really ‘POP’.
Keep in mind that if you’ve never taken singing classes or lessons, you will have a much more limited range than a trained singer, especially when it comes to the upper range. So be careful not to wrongly label your voice as “low” until you’ve had some proper training.
Before the age of 12, the vocal chords have not yet fully matured. Our instructors take great care to focus on repertoire that is fun and enjoyable while still nurturing to the developing voice. These songs may include children’s songs, Disney songs, and pop songs.
Remember to practice even on your busiest days. As with physical exercise, even a 10-minute workout each day is better than nothing. If you have a commute, try practicing in the car. If you don’t have much time alone, ask your voice teacher for a few quiet exercises that you can do.
A proper warm-up is incredibly important before using your voice, as is staying hydrated at all times, which keeps your vocal cords from getting irritated. You also might notice specific foods that affect your voice. Some singers find that they don’t perform well after eating or drinking dairy, for example.
There is one question that gets asked above all the rest, one thing that everyone wants to know: can I still learn to sing at 20, 30, 40… and even beyond that? At 24, is a professional singing career out of reach? Can you get as famous as Lady Gaga, or any other famous singer? For the hobbyists out there, is it even worth taking lessons at 52 years old… if you’ve always self-proclaimed yourself as “tone deaf”? Read on as voice teacher Douglas W. answers the commonly asked question. Am … Read More

The air release process happens at a considerable rate causing the chords to vibrate. A good example of this is the note ( A above C ) when sung. The vocal chords open and close 440 times a second to produce the frequency required to perform the note.
Hi, my name is Terry and you probably already read the front page of this site, so you probably already know that I’m a semi-professional singer and musician who’s sung and played in all kinds of live bands since the 1970s. Below is a short introductory video I shot recently to say hi and show you what is possible even from a simple, non-professional piece created on my phone at home!

Michelle was a FANTASTIC instructor! 🙂 I had a really hard time choosing instructors but I am so glad I picked her. Without much prior singing experience, I auditioned and made it into the fifth best choir in the world but I couldn’t have done it without Michelle‘s help! People in the choir were surprised that I was auditioning in without having been in a chorus before. She really knows what she’s talking about and is encouraging and uses every minute of the lessons wisely. I can’t believe how much I improved in just five lessons! Definitely would recommend Michelle!

Although singing isn’t the most difficult skill to learn, it’s definitely more complex than it seems. To some learners, singing comes naturally and they can create beautiful vocals with very little practice or effort.
These steps start from scratch and build up your singing ability in a logical way towards singing real songs reliably in tune. After taking these four steps you will understand clearly how to sing in tune. You may not be the next Pop Idol superstar but you will know for certain that you are always in tune and perfectly pitched each time you open your mouth to sing.
For quick tips on specific songs, solutions to technical issues and breaking down mental boundaries, check out Felicia Ricci. Another one of my favorite vocal coaches on YouTube, she has a knack for getting right to the heart of the matter in a lighthearted and easy-to-understand way. In videos like “Find Your Chest Voice”, she explains the link between singing and speaking and makes healthy vocalizing more accessible to all singers.
h better she had become after only a couple of months – and everyone in our church has noticed it as well. It seems to me like Kathy finds a very good balance between the rigorous basics of voice training, and just having fun and exploring what the student wants to do. I am very happy we found her.”

Yes! In fact, our online students typically stick with their lessons 10% longer than local students. Why? Convenience and quality. You can take lessons with any teacher, anywhere in the country… all without leaving your home.
