How great is it to play your instrument and sing to your songs with confidence. Singing along with your instrument adds an extra dimension to the experience. You now have two instruments (your voice is also an instrument) that complement each other.
Now it’s important to note that there are two different types of vocal exercises, but I’ll say more about that in a minute. First, I want to talk about the actual knowledge part of singing, which is important because with the right knowledge you can increase your singing ability dramatically and almost immediately, once you apply that knowledge. Of course you can improve your singing with vocal exercises, especially when doing both types, and I fully recommend doing them. But those take time and work, whereas the knowledge part is applicable right now.
So, how do you strengthen your pitch-matching abilities? One method is simple aural drills. Start by playing a note on a piano to find your pitch. Sing along, and then subtly slide your pitch one way, and then back to the note. You’ll start training your ear to hear the varying pitches.
I remember when I first decided to get singing lessons online. I was tired of losing my voice after singing for less than an hour. I’d had enough of being on stage, reaching for a high note and my voice cracking.
The A-O joint – Your very top vertebra, AKA the “atlas,” forms a joint with the bottom of your skull to support your head. Balance your head on this joint (the A-O joint) so that you are neither looking up or down. A properly balanced A-O joint reduces neck and jaw tension.

This isn’t a “hearing test”, it’s not checking for hearing damage or age-related hearing loss. And don’t worry about whether you have a “musical ear” or not. The tone deaf tests which are well-designed don’t require any musical knowledge or skill. They test only the basic biological ability of distinguishing different pitches. You can be totally unmusical and still pass the test, because tone deafness isn’t actually about musical skill, it’s much more fundamental than that.

Your singing voice is greatly affected by your posture and state of muscles. This is why it’s imperative that you avoid putting your body under tension. If your body is in any way distressed, it will be reflected when you sing and your singing voice won’t be excellent. Being relaxed will help you sound very good when you sing. The posture to adopt in order to achieve an excellent voice when you sing is to stand erect, look forward, keep your shoulders relaxed, and space out your feet so that they are parallel to your shoulders. Ensure your back is straight. The right singing posture will help you to avoid unnecessary muscle tension and thus making your singing sound very good.

Each voice type (soprano, tenor, bass, etc.) has a different vocal range associated with it. Simply stated, your vocal range is the span from the lowest note to the highest note your voice can produce.
If you focus only on free lessons from YouTube, I guarantee you will get frustrated. Online lessons give you guidance in a step by step progression, allowing you to move from one exercise or technique to the next. You can’t find this for free on YouTube.
As you work through these steps remember that learning to sing in tune is simple and methodical process. You might hit some snags along the way (because learning is like that) but as long as you follow this process and don’t try to run before you can walk, you should find it is a smooth and enjoyable journey.
