Who is Aaron Anastasi? Is that “singing course” any good? Well after purchasing it, we decided to write our OWN honest review here. My name is John Peele and this is Jazz Rendezvous’s Review of The Month…
So we’re just going to do a little scale, singing on ahh. (Sings five notes and then plays the five notes on the piano.) And now, pretty good so far, now we’re going to go to a five-note scale. The challenge here is in the major scale. There is a whole note, whole note, half note, whole note series. The relationship between all those notes is not exactly the same, which is where most people tend to go off-pitch. And this is a little bit more advanced but I wanted to give it to you because I think it would be interesting for you to learn.
Remember that learning how to use your voice is like learning any musical instrument – and it’s not instant. So while you WILL see tremendous results very fast, these 60 days are not the end of your journey – but only the beginning.

Hello, I am having trouble determining/keeping my vocal tone. I sometimes have the tone like Toby Keith or Trace Adkins, and sometimes I am not even close. I am not sure what to do to find and keep that tone. Is there a secret to enhancing the deep dark tone? I seemed to drink too much coffee, do you think that is the reason? dehydration? Thanks, Gary
I’m not saying former professional Singers are the only instructors worth hiring but they have a very valuable skill set that others won’t have. It’s worth investing some time and energy into finding somebody who has earned their bread and butter with their voice as well as with their teaching.
A good vocal tone is not established by singing loudly, it’s established at medium volume. Good tone happens when vocal folds are strong enough to have a good closure but not touch. Releasing too much air creates a “breathy” tone and releasing too little air creates a “nasal” tone. Unless you’re really going for breathy or nasal as a stylistic choice, somewhere right in between the two is a perfect balance. HearFones® allow you to really hear yourself and work on your tone at medium volumes. You can find them on Amazon.com or Google “Hearfones.”
A very useful framework for practising vocal control is solfa (a.k.a. “solfege” or “do re mi”). This is a system where you give a name to each note in the scale, which makes it easier to understand which note you’re aiming for each time you change pitch.

All singing is produced on vowel sounds. Consonants don’t have pitch. Some consonants like M and N are produced through a pitched hum – but that is not exactly singing. You need to work on what goes on in singing vowel sounds with your body.
This is a quick trick that makes you sound better instantly. Say A-E-I-O-U (watch your jaw movement in the mirror). Did your jaw close on any of the vowels? Chances are your jaw closed on the E and the U – and most likely on others too, if not all of them. Take your first two fingers and pull your jaw down 2 inches (or even better – use a plastic bottle cap or a cork (wine) to prop your jaw open). And speak the vowels again. And repeat again (we’re trying to re-program muscle memory – so the more the better). Now sing the vowels on one pitch. A-E-I-O-U. Your goal is to keep your jaw open (long not wide) without closing for all of your vowels. Repeat until you can do it. Now sing a phrase of one of your songs – and make sure your jaw opens to the same position on all of your vowels. You have to practice this a bunch before it becomes natural – but the more you do, the sooner this new movement is programmed into your muscle memory. And, you might be one of those lucky ones who notice the improvement in the sound right away (it will sound louder and more resonant with less vocal strain). If you don’t – don’t sweat it – you will. It just takes a little practice. (You might have some unwanted tension in your neck, jaw and throat muscles – try loosening them up and try it again.) The next time you perform open your jaw more on your vowels — it’s a quick trick that makes you sound better instantly!

You’ve probably heard that honey/lemon/and hot water are helpful if you have mucous in your throat. But remember that lemon is drying so don’t overdo it. I prefer gargling, here’s the best way: If your throat feels gunky and/or irritated: mix 1/4 teaspoon baking soda + one cup warm water. Take a small amount of fluid in your mouth and gargle at a high pitch-this causes your vocal cords to contract and rise closer to where you are actually gargling (your epiglottis will prevent the fluid from actually reaching your vocal cords). Spit and repeat several times.
Much obliged to you for your post! This instructional exercise is astounding! Loads of incredible data including however breathing is a subset of singing that numerous Famous Vocal Coaches they understand the should effectively consider and cultivate more noteworthy control of. Case in point, a significant number of us vocalists have a tendency to breathe in much as we do when we’re sitting, strolling, or talking.
Begin with the basic solfege (by sound) notes: “do, re, mi, fa, so, la, ti, do,” while ascending the pitches along with a piano or keyboard accordingly. The object is to decline back down to the pitch “do,” by singing “do, ti, la, so, fa, mi, re, do.”
Once I decided that I wanted to become a better singer, I didn’t know where to start. To rise above other singers in the field who are amazingly talented, I knew I had to improve my voice. How can I achieve this?
When it comes to pitch, tone, vocal range and other aspects of singing, this course will help take you to the next level. It helped me and others I know a ton and I’m sure it will be the same for you too.
For clarinet and oboe students I like to compliment what their band/orchestra director is using when possible. I also love the Klose method for clarinet. The Rubank is also a tried and true book I use. I’ve had a lot of success with these books.
I teach group lessons for newborn to 9 1/2 yrs: newborn – 18 mos, 18 mos – 3 1/2 yrs, 3 1/2 – 4 1/2 yrs, 4 1/2 – 61/2 and group Piano lessons for ages 6 1/2 to 9 1/2. I have taught young children for 25 years at 1st Methodist Church in Grapevine. We sing, dance, and play instruments. We work on duple and triple meter as well as learn solfeggio. It’s fun and educational!
This is as true when it comes to business or writing or almost any other field as it is for singing, and it’s important to keep this in mind when looking for a Vocal Coach. Would you rather train with someone who has spent many years exclusively teaching young people how to sing or with someone who was actually a professional Singer for many years and who then transitioned into being a Teacher or Professor? Ideally, your coach would have tons of experience in both roles, but that’s difficult to find and if you have to choose just one, go for the latter.
Hello, my name is Dylan. I am a High school student and I have been really wanting to start a band. If need be, I will go independent. I do struggle with equipment and money because, well, I have no money! I believe that I am a good singer and that I can get better. My one problem is stage fright. Terrified by the thought. Though I do have this fear and I plan on working on it, I really would like a vocal teacher or maybe someone who could help me with my music. If you think you can help in any way, PLEASE contact me at my email, firstname.lastname@example.org. Thanks!
No problem—we want you to be happy. If your instructor is not in tune with your needs, let us know. Our standardized curriculum means you can switch to any of our qualified instructors or another instrument without missing a beat.

Another scenario is the young stage star with phenomenal presence. Going on raw talent, he stars in every High School musical, she tears down the house at summer rodeos, she gets booked on Broadway, he signs a record deal. The demand of these careers guarantees vocal blow out. The Early Nova needs training to go beyond the “natural talent” level and shift to the “self knowledge” level. Ultimately, training is about self mastery. Every natural talent is going to get backed into a corner eventually and need lessons some time. If they don’t tell you they have a voice teacher on their website, trust me… that’s just posing and PR.
As an extension of your lessons, Jam Nights are a fun, casual way to meet and play with others. To help put you at ease, we’ll match musicians of similar skill level together so you can easily swap great musical ideas. All Jam Nights are free for our students.
I highly recommend this course for every single person (beginners and experienced singers alike) who want to become the top-notch vocalists they’re destined to be. This course can definitely take you far.
@bobobobo, people have been singing for a lot longer than 96 years. I don’t see the book’s age as a valid reason for criticism. And there’s no strong reason to trust Amazon’s ratings. You might be right, but you need a better argument… – naught101 Sep 23 ’12 at 13:19
Enter a local singing competition. Be reasonable about how you expect to perform; if you’ve been singing for less than 3 months and have no formal training, it’ll be difficult — but that’s what you want, right?
Have you ever wondered how singers such as Whitney Houston, Freddy Mercury, Maria Carey, Elvis Presley and Ariana Grande produce that beautiful sound? The answer is “Bel Canto.” It’s not just a vocal technique, it’s a science. Some great singers intuitively apply the concepts of “Bel Canto” to reach vocal greatness while others were taught. At “Beautiful Voice NJ” students learn everything from how to produce a gorgeous tone to how to gain ultimate pitch control. Modern day Bel Canto, which means “Beautiful Singing,” is applied to all styles of music: Rock, Pop, Alternative, Jazz, R&B, Funk, Blues, Soul, Broadway, Country, Hip Hop, Classical and more.

This isn’t a “hearing test”, it’s not checking for hearing damage or age-related hearing loss. And don’t worry about whether you have a “musical ear” or not. The tone deaf tests which are well-designed don’t require any musical knowledge or skill. They test only the basic biological ability of distinguishing different pitches. You can be totally unmusical and still pass the test, because tone deafness isn’t actually about musical skill, it’s much more fundamental than that.
hey i’m jasmine , this helped me a loooot, thank you so much, i have a question tho.. my voice kinda gets cracked and rusty sometimes , do you know any possible way to make my voice more smooth and clear ? 🙂
Of all the aspects involved in singing, breath support and jaw placement are two of the most important. This group singing class will help you understand why. Breathing exercises and a discussion on vocal health will help you use your personal instrument to its fullest potential!
