I still can’t get a vibrato working at all. I’ve been researching forever and just can’t figure out what’s wrong with me. Does my voice need to be stronger first before the vibrato will come? I feel like at the moment i’m simply practicing “laaa” repeatedly with no outcome. Now let’s move on to what the different types of voices are. There are five general categories of voice types. Three are for men and two are for women. We’ll list each voice type here along with a short description of each.

With online lessons you can study when you want and where you want. You can read and re-read those singing lessons and concepts until you fully comprehend them. You can also play those videos back and forth as often as necessary and for as long as you want.
Note that if you feel any type if physical strain or especially to the extent of pain, stop practicing. This may be due to practicing these techniques in an incorrect fashion. Seek to speak with a vocal trainer, choral director, or a specialist of the vocal folds. They will be able to show you what is being done incorrectly, and offer insight for self-improvement.
Start by practicing with a backing track. You can normally find karaoke versions of popular songs on YouTube, or if necessary you can use the regular studio version, singing along with the lead singer. Begin with just a short section of the song, for example just the chorus.
You can find online exercises for this, especially increasing your upper range by learning the “mixed voice” register. @naught101 My criticism isn’t on the contents of the book and I’m not addressing the possibility that it may be wrong, but rather on the presentation of the text (which is archaic and hard to read). Just try and read the text yourself. It’s not good studying to learn from something that’s hard to grok while there are much more suitable books out there written in modern English.
