If you’re quiet, muffled, or sloppy, the message and story of the song can get lost. Moreover, some singers don’t even recognize when they have poor diction. This is where recording yourself while singing, or getting feedback from a voice teacher, can make a huge difference.
Here are a couple exercises that will help you to develop your pitch. If you are anything like me and have heard people sing off pitch you know how bad it can sound. So check out these tips that will……
@bobobobo: I think the problem with the Lilli Lehmann (How to Sing) is not so much the age (I see English 1902, German 1900!) as that it seems to be a rather stilted translation from the German. – PJTraill Dec 7 ’17 at 21:27
So, we’re going to go sharp first. I’m going to sing ah (sings ah while varying pitch). Doesn’t sound so good. But that is important to determine that that is a sharp note. Now here’s a flat note. Here’s the center. (sings ah) Sounds flat, okay? So you can’t have good pitch until your ear hears the center of pitch and whether you are singing sharp or singing flat. That’s the first thing. And I recommend going to the piano, playing a note, and trying to hit the pitch. And then go slightly sharp, and then come back to the center, and then go slightly flat. Kind of like tuning a guitar string, how we would bring it in to the pitch.
ectations I had for a music teacher. He is effective and can tackle individual challenges from unique perspectives that will help you overcome you hindrances all while being very personable. I received Sheet music, training CD’s and training documentation. Additionally I received recordings of each lesson which I you will not believe how helpful that is, it’s like have the lesson all over again.
Although classically trained, I also sing jazz, pop, R&B and gospel equally as well. I believe that I bring a rare perspective on music and feel uniquely qualified to teach/coach contemporary and classical singers. Students and parents will find my informances accessible, and I will inspire them to realize that their goals are attainable. During voice/coaching lessons, I will help students to improve their si
Steven has been working with my daughter in piano and singing. The first lesson he discussed with her what she’d like to achieve, and they set goals for them to work towards, which I love. My daughter really enjoy’s working with Steven and practicing piano is no longer a chore for her. He’s teaching style is a great fit for her, and in 4 weeks she’s learned more from Steven than she has from other instructors we’ve had. I have no trouble recommending Steven.

Drink lots of water, take a bath, use tiger balm on your neck (have someone massage your neck muscles if possible) or go to an acupunturist and rest your voice. Then for warm up do the cool downs on The Singers Gift Warmups to thin out the vocal folds and reduce inflammation (the last exercise in the series!)
When you internalize it and decide that you set your sights on the goal of learning how to sing, now it’s just a matter of finding the right guide to help you do it.  Now, as someone who tried learning how to sing both with a face to face vocal teacher and with an online course – I will give you my honest thoughts about the pros and cons of both.
Their method of teaching is incomparable to others. They had broken down the basic concepts into clear and very comprehensive teaching styles, avoiding confusing technical terms that may be difficult to understand.
Hey Shane, I was following the program every day (it was rare that I skipped a day) for 8 weeks, while also singing some of my favorite songs in between on my guitar practice sessions. Starting from the 3rd or 4th week I started feeling the major improvement as well.
What I think about it: I really liked the structure of the course. It is very easy to follow and understand, it shows you a “course progress” bar, and every week I gradually felt how I was constantly improving and my favorite songs that I like to sing while playing guitar (from Beatles to Dylan to Coldplay, Rock, Pop, some Jazz) just began to sound much better. I also felt how I could sing for a longer time without feeling “worn out” on the inside of my throat, thanks to the good techniques and habits I learned.
Hi, I love singing and I always try to imitate any voice I listen to.. I also have this natural baritone to tenor voice but every time I try using my natural voice to sing to any song I’m listening to I just find it difficult to do so because I feel I’m note hitting d notes right and so I switch to copying the voice. What do I do pleaseeeee. And is drinking warm water good for the voice.
Hi, My name is Stephen Cook. I am a 57 year old guitarist and guitar instructor with over 47 years playing and instructing experience. I learned to play by watching other guitarists, listening to record albums, and studying guitar instruction books. I love to teach all age students. I teach all the guitar basics including: how to hold the guitar, tuning, the finger numbers, string numbers and names, the fret board, open chords, barre chords, and more. I not only teach the lesson, but also provide printed lesson material for the student to take home and practice on in between lessons. I am al
There are many reasons why, but the main one is that you won’t learn any bad habits. Singers who have a lot of experience singing, but not a lot of experience being coached, often times have some really bad singing habits that need to be “unlearned” first. And that can sometimes take time.

Let me offer a serious suggestion that has been a popular method of learning to sing for people for many generations: Attend church services on Sunday mornings at a Christian church and sing along with the hymns. Find a church whose congregation sings traditional church hymns from a hymnal book.
Accompaniment by a pianist is often part of vocal coaching. The vocal coach may double as a vocal coach and as an accompanist. In other cases, the vocal coach may hire an accompanist to play during the coaching sessions. Piano is one of the most common instruments used for accompaniment, as it can be used to play basslines, chords and melodies at the same time. Other instruments may also be used (e.g., guitar, Hammond organ, etc.) but are less common.
Begin with breathing exercises. Breathing exercises will allow you to better control the pitch and duration of your singing. It’s no surprise: singers who can breathe deeply and consistently get better mileage out of their voice.
We stand out first for the fact that our main focus is ministry.  The media aspect of Soar is way above and beyond any other program.  The photos, audio & video you get from music videos, concerts, etc. is incredible.
A. Well here’s a common scenario; you might perform like crazy as a kid, not take voice lessons, and do fine until you hit your late teens or early twenties, when you discover you just can’t do as much as you ‘d like to. A child choir-singer can become a professional artist if they have good training between 18-25, the College years.
Hellomy name is Arrolla , I have recently developed rattling in my throat. I’m very frustrated because I can’t get rid of it, at first I thought it was a cold or the flu, but then it stayed for a long time. I now am afraid that my voice will have this phelmy sound.I’m currently trying eucalyptus oil in the air that helps a lot, but I’m wondering if you have some other ideas that I could use. Thanks in advance for any advice you can give.
Many people have difficulty singing in tune at all, while others can start off okay but then can’t hold a tune or gradually start hitting wrong notes or wandering out of key. Although we would say that these people have a bad voice or are fundamentally a bad singer, this isn’t a permanent trait – it’s simply that they haven’t yet learned to sing in tune.
This style of church music deliberately uses simple melodies in simple rhythms, with a narrow range of pitches that are easy for non-trained singers to sing. Once you get comfortable with it, you can try learning one of the four-part harmony lines in the hymn arrangements. This will be your introduction to harmonizing.

3 stars because it doesn’t always work… all the sudden my pitch won’t show up on the screen…. that it kind of the whole point. This seems to be because of a sort of crackling that makes it try to decide between a really low pitch or high pitch and it ends up just giving up. I would blame this on the headphones, but they’re from Apple and do very clear audio recordings. Or it just won’t work at all. But normally, the dot will move and twitch between a really low pitch and the pitch I’m actually at
Aside from the bonuses already mentioned above, you will also get a manual called superior high notes. Nine video lessons with seven different exercises are in this bonus course. It also comes with a PDF manual that you can read as you go through the lessons.
Many people are gifted with natural singing ability, but whether you want to become a professional entertainer, a casual performer, or sing for fun, it is important to learn how protect your best asset and to increase it’s potential.
Lip Trills: Release lip tension and connects breathing and speaking. Releases tension in the vocal folds. Place your lips loosely together release the air in a steady stream to create a trill or raspberry sound. First try it on an “h” sounds. Then repeat on a “b” sound. Hold the sound steady and keep the air moving past the lips. Next try to repeat the b-trill gliding gently up and down the scales. Don’t push beyond what it comfortable at the top or bottom of the scale.
Prices vary across the country. Teachers who offer lessons in big cities – New York, Boston, Atlanta, and Los Angeles, for example – tend to charge more for their services. Of course, you don’t want to drive hours and hours to reach your voice teacher’s home or studio, so you could end up stuck with whatever the going rate is in your city.
HI Alex, You are probably a high tenor voice. It’s best to take some voice lessons and learn how to use it to get it sounding as good as it can. High tenor voices are sought after so I think if you embrace it you will find it is an asset. In the meanwhile download my Singers Gift Warmups to help you lower your larynx and make your voice feel more comfortable! https://www.caricole.com/singersgift
Start with a few simple things: pay attention to your nutrition and health in general, including eating well, staying hydrated, not smoking, and getting enough sleep. From there, watch how your health influences your singing.
Before the age of 12, the vocal chords have not yet fully matured. Our instructors take great care to focus on repertoire that is fun and enjoyable while still nurturing to the developing voice. These songs may include children’s songs, Disney songs, and pop songs.
Ugh, I wish I could sing. I want to get into theatre acting (its my first job choice, I do have backups) but being able to sing is something that would really help me as musical theatre is big in the industry (well, where I live, its the only kind of theatre) and yeah. Its not shyness or anything like that because when I do perform, I am the most confident person ever its just my singing voice sounds like 100 cats being strangled :/ is there anything that could help me?
Marjorie has a wide range of students, from beginners to advanced. One thing you can be certain about her is that she has a passion for teaching and loves teaching beginners. The commitment to help you improve is there. In my opinion, that is what you want in a teacher. I have the utmost confidence in recommending Marjorie to someone who is looking for a teacher.
