The key to this exercise is to make sure you are listening carefully as you practice. Don’t just rely on the tuner’s display. Try to always hear whether you are too high or too low before checking the display. That way you are gradually developing your own inner tuner so that in future your feedback loop can work directly without the assistance of a digital tuner.
Students who already have a wide vocal range and the ability to match pitch will progress faster than those who weren’t born with these talents. Either way, each of these talents can be developed with the right amount of practice.

Try to extend the sound. Imagine the sound stretching or streaming out into the next room. How long can you sustain the sound? Notice that your stomach starts to tighten a bit – that is your diaphragm muscle kicking in to support the sound. Aim for holding the vowel sound for as long as possible while staying relaxed. Count in seconds in your head and keep a record of your progress.
Many vocal auditions, competitions, and scholarship opportunities are based, at least partly, on a music theory exam or assessment. So learning music theory also opens up opportunities for you as a music student and a competitor.
You will suck if this is the attitude u give it. In order to have good vocals you also need to trust yourself!….. Close your eyes, and sing whatever comes….. twist the lyrics of already known songs, and use your current feelings. I bet youre trying to imitate other singers voices. Which is where youll sound like a mule cause every person has a different voice.
Singing well involves the breath, the resonators of the upper face, and the muscles that you use to speak (in the lips, tongue, and jaw). Try looking at yourself in the mirror while practicing to make sure you aren’t doing any extra, unnecessary work.

If you are beginning the search for a Vocal Coach, you are probably also just getting started as a Singer. I hate to say it, but there are a lot of shocks, surprises, and quite a few disappointments coming your way. It is simply the way of the world, and certainly of this business in particular.

The vocal coaching field is competitive, especially at the highest professional levels. Salaries vary greatly, as do the conditions of work. While a small number of top vocal coaches can command very high hourly or daily rates, most vocal coaches, like most other music and arts professionals, tend to have salaries which are below the average for other professions which require a similar amount of education and experience, such as economists or bank managers. The work conditions vary widely, from part-time or occasional freelance work for individual singers, opera companies, or record companies, to full-time contracts or multi-year jobs for universities (coaching vocal performance students and students in opera courses) or music theater companies.
Digitally or through online singing lessons (e.g., via Skype or Facetime) in which audio or video is transmitted of the instructor singing and the student imitates the instructor. The instructor can also hear the student sing and provide coaching on her or his singing. In most cases, there is a small delay in the audio transmitted during digital voice lessons so the instructor is not able to actively accompany the student. Instead, the voice teacher plays a tone or chord and demonstrates the scale or exercises which he wishes for the student to sing. The student then imitates the instructor. The instructor can then modulate the scale upwards while the student follows singing the same scale pattern.
Ideally you want a program that loosens you up, make you’re voice more flexible, build up your range, and perhaps add new “colors” to your sound. For example, if you can only sing loud or slow, you’ll want to add lighter contrasting tones to make your song emotions more varied. Singing lessons should stretch your range and build breath control and body strength, without interfering with your vocal personality. In fact, lessons should give you more tools to try more unique things! Probably the best thing about lessons is learning how to have power without straining. I actually, believe it or nah, have a really great tip on how to make your voice sound better. Ok, this is really old but works really amazing, and you don’t have to go anywhere to do this.(Unless you don’t have salt then GO FORREST GO!! BUY SOME SALT!!! XD) Ok, so simple my 1 yr. old sis did it. All you have to do is get some water, prehebly hot to make the next step easier. Then you add some salt, however much desired, and mix continually. Then, after you finish and then salt water is all mixed up u just gargle it ( WHATEVER YOU DO DONT SWALLOW!!!!! IT CAN MESS UP YOUR BODIES BALANCE OF SALT!!!! IF U DRINK IT THEN IT MAY CAUSE SERIOUS OFF BALANCE SALT LEVELS AND U MAY HAVE TO GO TO THE HOSPITSAL!!) But, do not worry if you swallowed a little bit. JUST DONT SWALLOW PURPOSLLY!!!! Not all Vocal Coaches are Voice Teachers and vice-versa. A Voice Teacher is a technician: our main focus is on singing technique and the nuts and bolts of teaching a singer how to produce a healthy, powerful sound. To do this, Voice Teachers give an understanding of breath support and resonance by guiding students through vocal exercises and breath exercises. We help students put that technique into practice in their repertoire. A Vocal Coach, on the other hand, is a Pianist, Conductor or Music Director who is an expert in a chosen type of repertoire. They coach the student’s songs from the standpoint of interpretation, intention, genre, and musicality. They are generally not trained singers and, while they often have some knowledge of vocal technique, it is not their primary job to teach a student how to sing the song nor are they trained to fix the vocal issues giving a student problems in the song. It’s their job to help a singer take their interpretation and performance to the next level once they’ve worked the technique with their Voice Teacher.
