There are numerous people within our world that absolutely love to sing and are grasped by the proposal of training their voice. Locate your diaphragm below your chest and above your belly – buried behind muscle, but detectable when you notice your chest expanding as you inhale. The goal is to direct all of your inhaled air into your balloon-like diaphragm – not your shoulders.

Close your eyes, and sing whatever comes….. twist the lyrics of already known songs, and use your current feelings. I bet youre trying to imitate other singers voices. I’m sad to leave when our two hours are up yet I’m also on a massive high: all that air flowing through your body gives you an endorphin rush not dissimilar to a session in the gym. Have I mastered singing Don’t Stop by the time I leave? Far from it, but I feel I’ve gained a good grasp of the basics. And although I detect an element of sarcasm in my wife’s comments when I get home – “bloody hell, it’s Scott Walker!” – it’s undeniable that a whole range of previously unattainable baritone notes has been opened up to me.
In your voice lessons, you will learn how to warm up, extend your range and strengthen you vocal cords just like professional singers. You will work on specific songs in order to perfect your singing, and most students will hear improvement in just a couple weeks.
If your child has no choir opportunities, get him/her voice lessons that are gentle and fun, which use a combination of pure singing and easy pop singing. They’ll develop good habits but stay interested. During puberty for boys or after puberty for girls, give them private lessons. At this age they’ll have the body size and hormones to support the voice. Any professional performing child should have a voice teacher to keep them from damaging their voice.

@naught101 My criticism isn’t on the contents of the book and I’m not addressing the possibility that it may be wrong, but rather on the presentation of the text (which is archaic and hard to read). Just try and read the text yourself. It’s not good studying to learn from something that’s hard to grok while there are much more suitable books out there written in modern English. Practice keeping the back of your mouth open when you vocalize the vowels. Practice voicing the “ng” sound in training; the back of your mouth is closed. Now practice voicing the “ah” sound, like you’re opening your mouth at the dentist. The back of your mouth is now open.

It did not only promise, but also delivered a tremendous improvement in my singing and made me confident, for the first time in my life, to sing in front of other people when I play music. Of course, it’s one thing to sing freely in a rehearsal room, quite another to do so in public. And so, two days later, I head to All Star Lanes in Brick Lane, London, to test out my new skills. The pressure’s on: standing in front of my audience of six friends, I suddenly know exactly how it feels to be Chris Martin surveying Glastonbury’s Pyramid stage crowd. But the pressure doesn’t last long. Less than a minute into my rendition of Don’t Stop and my friend Jim turns to me: “Have you been taking singing lessons?” For the first time in his life, he doesn’t appear to be taking the piss. The night is 60 seconds old and it’s already an unqualified success.
Learning this skill is about connecting up your ears (which we just proved are up to the task in step one) with your voice. There’s a sort of “feedback loop” that you need to practice, where you sing a note, hear whether that note is at the right target pitch or not, and then adjust accordingly.
Learn to use your nose. Good singing involves partial nasal placement; it is our body’s soundboard. To avoid sounding nasal to others, however, your throat must be wide open with your tongue out of the way (slightly forward, touching the backs of bottom teeth when singing vowels). Nasality can often be heard in country singing and some R&B/Gospel, but can be unappealing to listen to.
Sing “mi-mommy-made-me-eat-my-m&ms” on the notes “do re mi fa so fa mi re do.” Start out by singing “mi” while moving the pitch up higher on the notes “do re mi fa.” “Ya” is to be sung on “so fa mi re do.” The note “so” is one pitch higher than “fa,” and therefore, it is necessary to imply on one pitch higher with the word “ya” before going back down the scale. Try to connect the notes and the words sung on the melody in a smooth fashion. This is called legato.

He has performed lead roles and recitals all over the country, as well as throughout Europe in various Opera houses and concert halls.
