You are basically becoming a voice athlete – and just like any other athletic training, you can’t just take a pill and all of a sudden be strong or great.  You need good training and a good vocal coach.

I still can’t get a vibrato working at all. I’ve been researching forever and just can’t figure out what’s wrong with me. Does my voice need to be stronger first before the vibrato will come? I feel like at the moment i’m simply practicing “laaa” repeatedly with no outcome. My ultimate goal is just have a vibrato, doesn’t even need to be a good one, i just want the experience of having one.
You can find online exercises for this, especially increasing your upper range by learning the “mixed voice” register. However, it’s easy to strain your voice if you don’t know how to use your muscles properly. It’s best to ask a vocal coach for guidance, or to learn the amazing things you can do with your current range.

The first part of knowing what group you belong in is your gender. If you are a female, then you are either an alto or soprano. If you are a male, then you are either a tenor or bass. The second part is how high or low your voice is. If you are a female and you’re more comfortable singing at a high pitch rather than a low pitch, then you are a soprano. If you are a female and you’re more comfortable singing at a lower pitch, then you are an alto. If you are a male and you’re more comfortable singing at a higher pitch, then you are a tenor. If you are a male and you’re more comfortable singing at a lower pitch, then you are a bass.
Here’s where things get somewhat tricky, especially when it comes to hiring for a position like a Vocal Coach. These days, if you are deciding on a restaurant to have dinner at, you look at Yelp to see what others thought of their dining experience. If you are considering going to the movies, you may browse online to catch up on what Critics thought. There are dozens of examples of times when you can find reviews relating to something you want to spend your money on but it’s difficult when it comes to hiring someone. There is no rating system and there probably aren’t published reviews available on the internet but you can ask for references. Remember, when you first meet with a potential Vocal Coach, it is something of a job interview!
The training and education of vocal coaches varies widely. Many vocal coaches are former or current professional singers. Some vocal coaches have extensive formal training, such as a Bachelor of Music, a Master of Music, a Conservatory diploma, or degrees in related areas such as foreign languages or diplomas in human kinetics, posture techniques, or breathing methods. On the other hand, some vocal coaches may have little formal training, and so they rely on their extensive experience as a performer. While vocal coaches without formal training are mainly found in the popular music styles, they also exist in the Classical milieu.[citation needed] For example, a native German language speaker who moves to the US may begin providing German diction coaching to amateur vocal students, and over several decades, this vocal coach may develop a broad range of on-the-job experience in coaching German-language singing styles such as lieder and Wagnerian opera.
maybe you cant, but to be honest….. let someone else judge you. A human will always certainly “down criticize his own traits (voice included)”. Let someone who u know will be 100% honest judge you. Best choice would be a person that cant sing himself but listens to shit loads of vocals. Trust me im a pioneer 😉
After you get a feel for your voice on single pitches or notes apply your knowledge to any song you know. Think about the vowel sound of every word sung and aim for the loveliest version of each one that you can muster. Sing a line at a time. Consider how you attack each word – particularly at the start of a phrase. Try to hit the opening note in the middle of its sweet spot. Also explore what it is to swoop up or down to a note – not always desirable but sometimes interesting.
Many people have difficulty singing in tune at all, while others can start off okay but then can’t hold a tune or gradually start hitting wrong notes or wandering out of key. Although we would say that these people have a bad voice or are fundamentally a bad singer, this isn’t a permanent trait – it’s simply that they haven’t yet learned to sing in tune.
Neck – Your neck is a part of your spine. Streamline it with the rest of your spine rather than craning it forward. If you balance your head on your A-O joint, your neck should move into this position.

Well here’s a common scenario; you might perform like crazy as a kid, not take voice lessons, and do fine until you hit your late teens or early twenties, when you discover you just can’t do as much as you ‘d like to. A child choir-singer can become a professional artist if they have good training between 18-25, the College years.
As I mentioned already, learning music with teachers isn’t something I like, and I actually find Aaron’s “virtual” teaching a lot more efficient, especially when such resourceful information and helpful advice is included.
This doesn’t mean that you have to practice for long periods of time. Make shorter practice sessions strategic yet fun! Create your own silly warm-ups — try singing with “nonsense” words, or make a simple song your warm-up.
In practice this means that if someone played two different notes on a piano, someone with true tone deafness would be unable to tell whether it was the same note or two different notes. Naturally, if that person tried to sing they would have real difficulty because their ears and brain wouldn’t have a clue if they were singing the right notes or not.

Some studies have even shown vocal improvements among the tone deaf after working with a singing teacher! These studies prove that even if you think you have a terrible voice, you can in fact learn how to sing.

I’m nervous when I arrive, but David instantly puts me at ease. I realise that finding a teacher who won’t judge you is crucial, because to get your voice in shape it’s helpful to put yourself through some embarrassing vocal exercises. Hey, I’m a producer not a singer, so pardon me if this answer is a bit on the lines of “A Man with a Hammer sees every problem as a nail”. Maybe part of the problem is the recording and not your voice at all. Firstly everyone’s voice sounds weird to them when they first hear it recorded. That’s something you just need to get used to. Also, if your voice sounds “Unnatural” it might be because the way you are recording it has no reverb. You can fix that by standing further from the mic (especially if you’re standing in a church), or by getting some freebie music recording software that will add artifical reverb. Unless you have a good mic and know what you are doing, you’ll probably get a better result doing it in software. You might want to try adding some compression too. Once you realize you can get a better recorded sound, hopefully that will make you more confident singing live.
A habit I have is to make my voice sound like the singer. (Or sing with someone who sounds like you.) This makes it easier to sing in tune, since the sound waves match more accurately. I sound a lot like TobyMac (you probably don’t) and I have a similar vocal range (mine’s a little higher), so I sing his songs a lot.

Try practicing holding a note and keeping it steady and clear, using your diaphragm. But controlling your voice is all about learning your vocal strengths and building on them. Practice, practice, practice! What worked for me was picking a song that fit my vocal range and tone, then singing along with that. Recording yourself practicing is great, because then you can listen back and look at the areas where you could have been stronger, or held a note more clearly, then repeat. I guarantee after the first few recordings you’ll notice the difference. I have a very soft voice, but have been able to strengthen it.
Drink plenty of water. Drink lukewarm water for best results, as this will loosen your vocal chords. Give your body time to absorb the water. Avoid dairy products or thick drinks such as smoothies immediately before singing.

Being a rubbish singer is something I’ve long wanted to fix. But how easy is it to sort out? Would it be possible to improve my singing voice in just one short lesson? Yes there is. Most singers have breaks in their voice. You have to strengthen that area by exercising your voice with specific vocal exercises while holding your jaw down to lower the larynx. It is a process. You won’t go to the hospital for drinking salt water. Salt is in everything. Sure if you drink it in an excessive amount you might get a little sick/dehydrated but that’s it. Other than that good tip for helping soothe a sore throat.

A very useful framework for practising vocal control is solfa (a.k.a. “solfege” or “do re mi”). This is a system where you give a name to each note in the scale, which makes it easier to understand which note you’re aiming for each time you change pitch.
Pitch is defined as the quality that allows us to classify a sound as relatively high or low, and is determined by the frequency of sound wave vibrations. Knowing how to sing on pitch is what sets apart great singers.
Also consider what you hope to accomplish with your singing lessons. Do you want to be a music teacher? Join a choir? Or is theater performance in your sights? Wherever you want your singing lessons to take you, it will be the most beneficial to you if you choose an instructor with experience in that particular area. The more specific knowledge categories a vocal teacher has, the more he or she can charge for lessons.
