As I mentioned, in the beginning stages, before you’ve enrolled in a full-time singing or music college degree program, you shouldn’t have to spend too much of your hard-earned cash on vocal coaching. You’ll end up paying for exactly that once you are accepted into a university. If you have unlimited resources, go with a super expensive Teacher who has the prestige of once topping the charts, but if you’re not in the one percent and you need to watch where your pennies go (especially since you’ll likely be spending them later on anyway), it’s fine to look for someone who fits your limited budget.

Your voice is part of your whole body and it’s affected by the movement of surrounding muscles. You need to make sure your posture is correct, and that the supporting muscles, incuding shoulders and neck are relaxed and warm, otherwise you could strain your voice, and risk injury.
I liked the idea, but the execution is severely lacking in what could be considered instructional guidance. There is no description of what you are supposed to do or achieve in the exercises. There is no explanation of the score you recieve, or how to improve. The songs from which you chose your goal are very limited, and yet you need to have your own Spodify account to use the entire song. On top of that, the limited list doesn’t have a trade off, such as added lyrics to follow or well-separated vocal and backing tracks. When it’s time to sing with the music, you can barely hear the instruments. Very disappointing.
Additionally, the term “voice teacher” or “singing teacher” normally refers to an instructor whose main role is developing the singing voice. The term “vocal coach”, on the other hand, may be appropriated by someone who works on stage performance, vocal style or a host of other subjects that are related to voice, but not necessarily teach singing.

Learn to “cover the voice” for a fuller sound. Resonant, rounded sound is formed by opening the throat and by limiting the nasality. This is called “covering the voice.” Be careful, however. If you cover it too much, it may become to airy and mushy sounding.
For clarinet and oboe students I like to compliment what their band/orchestra director is using when possible. I also love the Klose method for clarinet. The Rubank is also a tried and true book I use. I’ve had a lot of success with these books.
If you can, record every practice session. Heck, record yourself every time you sing if you can! You will then be able to compare each session, hear improvements, and realize when things are going right… or wrong 🙁
As I mentioned already, learning music with teachers isn’t something I like, and I actually find Aaron’s “virtual” teaching a lot more efficient, especially when such resourceful information and helpful advice is included.

Be mindful of tempos and keys. Every decade of your adult life (between ages 15-25, again at 25-35 and again after 50) your vocal timbre and range is different. You have to allow for these changes in adjusting keys, tempos and song selection.

You won’t go to the hospital for drinking salt water. Salt is in everything. Sure if you drink it in an excessive amount you might get a little sick/dehydrated but that’s it. Other than that good tip for helping soothe a sore throat.
Okay, back to pitch. We’re going to sing center of pitch. What a lot of you are going to do, you’re going to slide into that note. You’re going to ah-uh-ah (sings at varying pitch). What I want you to imagine is, you’re going to aim right for the center of the bullseye. (Sings ah). And you want to imagine coming to it from above. Why is because the actually soft palette, which is inside the mouth, needs to lift for you to be able to hit center of pitch. That gets a little bit technical, but you can start taking lessons with a vocal coach to experience that more, because it’s really exciting when you start to make those changes and be more accurate with your pitch.
Like most singers, you most likely want to increase your vocal range so that you can sing higher notes with ease and less strain. Kids who like to sing never shut -up and therefore they grow. The intuitive development gained by singing throughout childhood, i.e. vocal strength, timing, an ear for harmony, and an ear for matching instruments cannot be made up for later- unless they perhaps master a musical instrument as a child. Good singing is more than a great sounding voice. This is why there are successful pros who may not have the most amazing tone, but really take the house down.
Doing all the exercises will make it work effectively for you. Buying it and just letting it sit on your computer will be of no help at all. Singing is a much more complex art than it first appears. It is near impossible to learn proficiently when just singing along to songs or looking at online resources. Private singing lessons will give you total attention from your vocal coach, in order for you to improve your voice quickly and effectively. Your voice teacher will also be able to see any weak points that a trainer of a choir or group class may not notice. This way, you will avoid developing bad habits that might impede your progress.
Singing louder and singing softer should take the same amount of breath support, and vocal strain should not be experienced, either way. Using diaphragm breathing, these variations can be controlled throughout the song. Try alternatively bringing your right and left hands forward, one after and over the other. This technique is used to add volume to your voice to sing in forte or fortissimo.
Your chest voice is usually a deep sound produced at the lower part of one’s range. Head voice is softer and more gentle. Likewise, mask voice is a combination of the 2 and you can feel this vibration slightly below the eyes on the bones of your cheeks when you are singing in this register. Registers are simply the prospect of getting as many parts of your body in vibration as you sing. You will be able to know which register you are in because there is something called a “break” in your voice from one register to the next. Sing a note that is in the lower end of your range. As if a siren, move the pitch you are singing upward, allowing it to rise. If you go high enough, and depending on where you are with developing your vocal range, you will experience a “break” in the sound of your “siren” where the vocal sound gets cut off. This is natural, and we all have this “break.” The range of your voice before you reached this break was sung in chest register. The sound produced after the break in a softer voice was sung in head register. Mask voice, which is in between the 2 distinguishing principles, was sung throughout the median pitches of your given range, before you reached the “break” point.
High notes require breath control. Try taking a bigger breath down into your diaphragm before you sing a higher note. Keep your chest lifted and your don’t let your chin reach up – keep it neutral. Flex your pectorals slightly and try to keep the back of your mouth open (make a space at the back of your mouth) Then use my they will help open up your voice and improve your breath control and strengthen your high notes!
You are supposed to blend in when singing harmony so that’s perfect. To make your voice more distinctive sing on your own more to develop your own style. To make it louder work on your breathing and relaxing your neck but keeping your chest lifted during singing.
Hi my name is Kei-shun and I’m a tenor. I have a non straining vocal range from G#2-E4. My music teacher, Daniel Henry, told me that I have the quality of a tenor one, so I sing tenor one. When I was 14 I could sing cheat voice to C5 with no problem. Now I’m 17 I start to strain going pass E4, as if my voice tries to go into head tone. If I sing soft I can sing to C5, but when I sing tenor one in the choir can’t get pass the E4; it would sound throaty and straining. I want to know how could I train myself to sing between F4-C5 with no problem, so I could be a tenor one like I want to be.

My teaching style is very laid back, although goal-oriented. We have fun while seeing progress. For piano, I typically use the Alfred Series “Alfred Basics 1 – 6” or the Adult All-in-One for the Older Beginner.
