A. You are not alone in that wish. If you have a creative bone in your body, you’ll feel this way. You need to interview prospective voice teachers and tell them this. Try to find a teacher who will diagnose your basic problems in how you produce sound, but not pass judgment on the style. I say this because depending on the city you live in, you may have access to teachers who specialize, as performers, in one style more than another. New York is flush with teachers who are professional classical or theater singers, and LA is packed to the gills with teachers who make a living in the recording industry. But a good teacher- even one who’s sings differently from you- should develop you in a way that is appropriate for your voice type and applicable to your style.
I offer private coaching to children, teens, adults who have an interest in acting or singing performance, and for those who simply have an interest in performing or speaking in front of others. In addition to coaching those who wish to better their skills in acting, voice and speech, and singing, I also offer coaching for non-actors; i.e., attorneys, business professionals, teachers, politicians, pageant participants, and other creatives, who want to improve their public speaking and communication skills.
Hellomy name is Arrolla , I have recently developed rattling in my throat. I’m very frustrated because I can’t get rid of it, at first I thought it was a cold or the flu, but then it stayed for a long time. I now am afraid that my voice will have this phelmy sound.I’m currently trying eucalyptus oil in the air that helps a lot, but I’m wondering if you have some other ideas that I could use. Thanks in advance for any advice you can give.
Breath Relaxation: Releases tension often associated in the breathing mechanism that can interfere with effective voice production. Ordinarily, if there is tension when breathing, that tension radiates to the voice box muscles. Take a normal breath and then exhale. Make sure your shoulders and chest are low and relaxed. Repeat many times making sure that your breaths are focused low in the abdomen and that there is not associated chest, neck, or shoulder tension while breathing. You can place one hand on your abdomen to remind you to keep the focus low and away from the chest and shoulders. Hold an “s” sound like in hiss when you exhale.
Once I decided that I wanted to become a better singer, I didn’t know where to start. To rise above other singers in the field who are amazingly talented, I knew I had to improve my voice. How can I achieve this?
Julia is a friendly, energetic, and caring person as well as being immensely talented! My daughter was so elated after her first lesson with Julia. She has a way of making the student feel comfortable and is very encouraging while teaching. I can’t say thank you enough to Julia!
All singing is produced on vowel sounds. Consonants don’t have pitch. Some consonants like M and N are produced through a pitched hum – but that is not exactly singing. You need to work on what goes on in singing vowel sounds with your body.
It seems unfair at times as some people come up with ideas for literally hundreds of songs, yet you can’t seem to come up with even one. But I would like to reassure you that everyone, including you, can write songs. It’s simply a matter of knowing which ideas can be best used, and take my word for it, there’s plenty.

While I’ve been a student of the voice and singing for most of my life, as well as a professional singer, I have spent the past year immersed in figuring out how to rapidly improve someone’s singing voice, even if they weren’t necessarily born with much ‘natural’ talent. I believe strongly that singing is something that……
As you might expect, young teachers just getting started are likely to recognize their limitations and charge less than instructors with years of experience molding up-and-coming stars in Los Angeles or New York.

Hi… so when I sing I think I sound really good, but then I record it and listen to it and I sound really young (I’m 15, by the way) and shy, and my voice just sounds really unnatural. My choir teacher recently asked me to start cantoring at my church, but I don’t want to sing and then sound like an idiot in front of a few hundred people… Do you have any suggestions to help make my voice sound more natural and confident? Thanks!
I take a physiological approach to singing… after all it is a physical endeavor.  The voice or larynx, despite all its complexities, is just another set of muscles that can be trained to reach its fullest potential.  The method that I teach, “The Franco/Italian Bel Canto Method” has been taught in Europe for more than 200 years and has produced the world’s greatest classical singers.  Now having said that let me assure you studying this method doesn’t mean that you have to become a classical singer.  The techniques used are designed to strengthen and improve the quality o
For example, a younger student will have more time to develop his or her voice, while an older student will more easily pick up on difficult skills like sight reading. Students of all ages are encouraged to join our online singing classes!
Great article, wow! I haven’t hear about the “think down” technique so far, will try it out in my next singing session 🙂 I would love to hear from you as an expert, what do you think about those tips I wrote? 🙂 I am not a professional singer, but I did a research on useful tips for musicians. I will definitely link your page there, too 🙂 http://blog.sofasession.com/how-to-improve-your-voice/
This happens because your voice actually sounds different to you than other people. This is due to the physics of sound being carried inside your body as well as outside through the air when you hear it. When you hear a recording you are actually hearing what other people hear when you sing.
There is a correct way to sing, and when you adapt correct technique your voice will flourish! You will develop a powerful, wide vocal range. Your tone will be thick and rich, consistent through your entire range. Which leads me to another point….
Christina teaches you how to expand your range, find your voice, and master the techniques that have earned her six Grammy Awards. You’ll learn warm-up exercises, breath control, vibrato, her signature growls, and hear Christina break down her biggest hits. There has never been a singing class like this before.
The first part of knowing what group you belong in is your gender. If you are a female, then you are either an alto or soprano. If you are a male, then you are either a tenor or bass. The second part is how high or low your voice is. If you are a female and you’re more comfortable singing at a high pitch rather than a low pitch, then you are a soprano. If you are a female and you’re more comfortable singing at a lower pitch, then you are an alto. If you are a male and you’re more comfortable singing at a higher pitch, then you are a tenor. If you are a male and you’re more comfortable singing at a lower pitch, then you are a bass.
A. To a certain extent. And to a certain extent it’s a PR myth. This is how I like to answer that “born with it or not question”…the best and bravest singers are singers first, and students of singing later. Kids who like to sing never shut -up and therefore they grow. The intuitive development gained by singing throughout childhood, i.e. vocal strength, timing, an ear for harmony, and an ear for matching instruments cannot be made up for later- unless they perhaps master a musical instrument as a child. Good singing is more than a great sounding voice. This is why there are successful pros who may not have the most amazing tone, but really take the house down.
If you’re serious about becoming a singer, you’ll have to get used to singing in front of a large crowd of people, and in stressful situations. It’s one thing to sing to yourself in your bedroom; it’s another thing entirely to sing in front of dozens or maybe hundreds of people.

Enter a local singing competition. Be reasonable about how you expect to perform; if you’ve been singing for less than 3 months and have no formal training, it’ll be difficult — but that’s what you want, right?
As both a top music conservatory and large private university graduate, I have a unique skill set and vantage point when it comes to teaching music. Based on a traditional approach, I adapt my lessons for the 21st century and provide a well-rounded music education including performance, technology, theory, and musicality.
Steven has been working with my daughter in piano and singing. The first lesson he discussed with her what she’d like to achieve, and they set goals for them to work towards, which I love. My daughter really enjoy’s working with Steven and practicing piano is no longer a chore for her. He’s teaching style is a great fit for her, and in 4 weeks she’s learned more from Steven than she has from other instructors we’ve had. I have no trouble recommending Steven.
