I’m going to give you an exercise and a lesson for singing with good pitch. Those of you who watch American Idol, the word “pitch” has become a household word. We all know what that means when a singer is singing slightly off-pitch. Pitch is something that even good singers work hard to have. You can have a really good musical ear and have a good musical voice, and still go slightly off-pitch. You can have a voice that goes off-pitch just from not being a singer and not using the voice much. The more you sing, the better your center of pitch gets. You want to think of pitch like a circle with a bullseye right in the center. Different singers actually sing and professional singers who have good pitch all have a slightly different center of pitch. So there are some singers that sing slightly sharp, and some singers that sing slightly flat, but not enough to go outside of that circle. So it sounds like its really good pitch, but if you put them together singing in unison, you would even hear that.
When selecting the person who will help you achieve greatness and eventually get into a program or school of your dreams, look for someone who has managed to work as a Singer or Vocalist of some kind before.
Also consider what you hope to accomplish with your singing lessons. Do you want to be a music teacher? Join a choir? Or is theater performance in your sights? Wherever you want your singing lessons to take you, it will be the most beneficial to you if you choose an instructor with experience in that particular area. If you’re serious about becoming a singer, you’ll have to get used to singing in front of a large crowd of people, and in stressful situations. It’s one thing to sing to yourself in your bedroom; it’s another thing entirely to sing in front of dozens or maybe hundreds of people.

When I came across Aaron Anastasi’s online singing course, I was SCEPTICAL about how efficient this program was going to be. After all, I worked with several teachers to improve my skills, and yet I WASN’T able to hit high notes or stay on pitch.
4 good habits would be: If a song is too high: Use your resonant (so-called “head”) voice. It can increase your range about a half octave. (6 semitones exactly, for me) If you have no idea what I mean by head voice, look it up. It’s a bit hard to explain. The other option is to sing louder (but don’t yell) if it is too high. My head voice is very weak, so I sing loud instead. Also, make your consonants clear. (I’m guilty of this one, too! 😄) If you sing into a mic, probably want to use the soft spongy covers for it if you get into this habit. That way you’re s’s won’t make everyone cringe from the high pitch. Don’t freak out if you suddenly sound terrible on one note. The closer you are to being on the correct note the worse it sounds, until our ears can’t hear the difference. And warm up first. Even if that’s singing a scale.
Torso – Your torso contains your lungs, along with the many muscles that help them work. For optimal breathing, balance your torso on top of your hips and allow it to feel large and open. Don’t try to flatten your spine; it is naturally curved and flattening it will hinder your breathing.

The basic solfege method is a system of symbols for each of the solfege pitches. The symbol for “do” is a fist. The symbol for “re” is a slanted hand with the side of your hand facing towards you, as should your thumb. Your finger tips should point slightly to the left. The symbol for “mi” is a flat hand as if you were placing it on a desk, and the side of your hand should face you once again, as should your thumb. The symbol for “fa” is a thumb’s down symbol with the inside of your thumb facing outward. The symbol for “so” is a flat hand with the palm facing outward. The symbol for “la” is a cupped hand that faces downward. The symbol for “ti” is a fist with the index finger pointing up and slightly to the left. Then, bring your index finger back into your fist to make “do.” You could attempt to master this method by practicing it over and over to gain the ability to symbol the notes faster. This could be an enjoyable and inspirational way to practice, as it helps to signal the notes while singing each of them. See what works for you. 🙂
If you notice the keys on the piano, note that the pitch “do” occurs more than once along the keys. The entire range of notes from one “do” to the next is called an octave. As your vocal range expands, you may achieve the ability to sing several octaves. To practice this, a piano would be very helpful. Press the key of the note “do” on the piano. This may be anywhere, depending on the type of instrument you have, such as a soprano, alto, or mezzo. Note that your voice will be traveling in an uprising fashion, so choose the spot accordingly. Start from a pitch you can comfortably sing. If you are an alto, it is best to start at a spot further down on the piano. Likewise, if you sing soprano, start higher. Mezzos should find a spot somewhere in between, midway throughout the keys. If you do not know your vocal type, make an estimate and find what works for you. Press the key “do” on the piano, and match pitch with your voice. Hold out this note as long as you comfortably can. Then, press the “do” one octave higher than the one you were singing and match pitch, holding it out accordingly. If you find this is too high for you, either start lower from the beginning, or you could try half of an octave by going from “do” to “so” instead. After singing the higher note “do” match pitch with the lower one again and sing it out to a comfortable extent. If you are a beginner, this may be enough octave training for the day. If you choose to persevere and move on, try singing out the note “re” as long as you comfortably can, then matching pitch with the higher note “re” and holding it as long as you may. Then hold out the lower note “re” once more. Try this practice with the notes “mi, fa,, so, la, ti, etc. depending on the stretch of your range. This exercise is intended to lengthen and strengthen the range of your vocal chords. Please be cautioned of straining your instrument.
I used to kinda like singing along with some of my favorite singers and I guess I kinda still do but I’m kinda afraid to let anyone actually hear me cause in the past I’ve been told that I haven’t got a bad voice but something about my tune of voice I don’t know and it’s kinda made me a little self-conscious.

Some recognize notes and enjoy a melody, but say they can’t sing or play. I say you can sing and you can play. If you just follow the proper singing lessons and proper instrument basics, you can sing and play. It is not difficult but simple. All you have to do is to put some effort. Just to practice and that is all what matters.

My mind is stuck in trying to impersonate the artist and duplicate their sound vs using my own natural voice.
