Begin with your hands on your stomach, placed on top of each other. Breath deeply and serenely through your nose so that the breath makes your stomach expand. As you exhale, your abdomen should contract slightly. Your inhale should be deep to the full capacity extent in order to hold out notes and phrases, and for the purpose of singing in legato. The exhalation should be mellow and slow, conserving every last bit of breath to input into your voice before taking the next breath.

Stay within the key. It is similar to singing harmonies when other notes can be sung in conjunction with the main note. Experiment! The voice is to simply expand as the vocal voice comes up as your real singing voice. To sing imagine that everything in your voice is to speak louder to project your voice is to expand it by inhaling and exhaling properly.

A quick look at local colleges versus Ivy League institutions will show you there can sometimes be a huge gap between those Teachers and Professors who have studied a certain field and those who have actually lived it. It’s wonderful to have a degree that makes one more educated about a specific subject, but it’s those who have actually succeeded in the business as Background Singers, Session Singers, Opera Singers, and so on who often make the best Teachers. They know what is going on in the real world and not just in a book or a classroom.
So we’re just going to do a little scale, singing on ahh. (Sings five notes and then plays the five notes on the piano.) And now, pretty good so far, now we’re going to go to a five-note scale. The challenge here is in the major scale. There is a whole note, whole note, half note, whole note series. The relationship between all those notes is not exactly the same, which is where most people tend to go off-pitch. And this is a little bit more advanced but I wanted to give it to you because I think it would be interesting for you to learn.

Just sing frequently, with and without your favorite songs playing :P. If you’re tone deaf like I used to be then I highly recommend interval training. Once you’re able to recognize when you are off-key then you can start correcting it, and you need to practice a lot to develop the musculature and control needed. Constant practice like this has changed me from terrible singing to passable, though I do wish I had time for lessons.

A. You are not alone in that wish. If you have a creative bone in your body, you’ll feel this way. You need to interview prospective voice teachers and tell them this. Try to find a teacher who will diagnose your basic problems in how you produce sound, but not pass judgment on the style. I say this because depending on the city you live in, you may have access to teachers who specialize, as performers, in one style more than another. New York is flush with teachers who are professional classical or theater singers, and LA is packed to the gills with teachers who make a living in the recording industry. But a good teacher- even one who’s sings differently from you- should develop you in a way that is appropriate for your voice type and applicable to your style.

But here’s the thing with that, if you’re going to sing A cappella, I’d like you to find what key the song is in and use an iPhone app or something, a piano app, to actually hit the note first for you, so that you are in the right key, if you are going to sing A cappella. And that’s a trick for singing a cappella songs in general. If you are going to go for an audition, you want to make sure that you don’t come in on the wrong note or in the wrong key, and then all of a sudden you are singing way higher than you need to. You want to be in the right key.

Here are a couple of basic things a singer can do to start building a bigger voice: use correct breathing method, engage vocal resonances and master singing on clean stationary vowels.  There is a common misconception about how to breathe.  Some believe that a singer needs to expand their ribcage out horizontally while inhaling.  That is incorrect.  This will result in various issues such as limited vocal range, pitch problems, a wobbly shaky vibrato and more.
Hi… so when I sing I think I sound really good, but then I record it and listen to it and I sound really young (I’m 15, by the way) and shy, and my voice just sounds really unnatural. My choir teacher recently asked me to start cantoring at my church, but I don’t want to sing and then sound like an idiot in front of a few hundred people… Do you have any suggestions to help make my voice sound more natural and confident? The basic solfege method is a system of symbols for each of the solfege pitches. The symbol for “do” is a fist. The symbol for “re” is a slanted hand with the side of your hand facing towards you, as should your thumb. Your finger tips should point slightly to the left. The symbol for “mi” is a flat hand as if you were placing it on a desk, and the side of your hand should face you once again, as should your thumb. The symbol for “fa” is a thumb’s down symbol with the inside of your thumb facing outward. The symbol for “so” is a flat hand with the palm facing outward. The symbol for “la” is a cupped hand that faces downward. The symbol for “ti” is a fist with the index finger pointing up and slightly to the left. Then, bring your index finger back into your fist to make “do.” You could attempt to master this method by practicing it over and over to gain the ability to symbol the notes faster. This could be an enjoyable and inspirational way to practice, as it helps to signal the notes while singing each of them. See what works for you. 🙂
Drink water. If you think drinking water is only good for physical fitness, newsflash: it’s great for vocal health, too. Load up on the H20 to keep your vocal folds hydrated, healthy, and ready to go. Breath down low and keep good posture.
The A-O joint – Your very top vertebra, AKA the “atlas,” forms a joint with the bottom of your skull to support your head. Balance your head on this joint (the A-O joint) so that you are neither looking up or down. A properly balanced A-O joint reduces neck and jaw tension.
Begin by aiming for just a 3 song repertoire. Pick three songs you like and which are in your comfortable range. It helps to memorise the song lyrics so that you have one less thing to think about as you sing.
I was able to perform them better because Aaron goes through all the details during the vocal exercises. I have never seen this type of teaching method in other online singing courses. The way Aaron performs the exercises with you in the recording helps to make you feel more confident in the way you are performing the exercises by yourself.
When selecting the person who will help you achieve greatness and eventually get into a program or school of your dreams, look for someone who has managed to work as a Singer or Vocalist of some kind before. They will have a better idea of what actually works in real life, and they’ll not only be able to prep you for classes, auditions, and performances, but they probably also have plenty of advice when it comes to nailing those auditions, doing well in school, and building a career.
As you work through these steps remember that learning to sing in tune is simple and methodical process. You might hit some snags along the way (because learning is like that) but as long as you follow this process and don’t try to run before you can walk, you should find it is a smooth and enjoyable journey.

Think of yourself as an athlete and eat that way: an athlete wouldn’t stuff herself with food just before running the mile and neither should you. A full stomach inhibits the movement of the diaphragm-you’ll have difficulty taking in full breaths and you’ll be prone to burping. Don’t starve yourself, either–singing is hard work, you need fuel. A normal meal an hour or two (two is better) before a singing session works best. If you need to eat between sets go for non-bulky, easy to digest food. Before a show I like eggs–high protein, low density.
Breathe in through your nose, then plug your nose with a free hand. This is how it should feel when you sing. Practice singing without feeling the exhalation of the breath in your nose while you sing.
