Being a rubbish singer is something I’ve long wanted to fix. But how easy is it to sort out? Would it be possible to improve my singing voice in just one short lesson? If anyone could help me then surely it was David Grant who, with his wife, Carrie, has coached Take That and Charlotte Church, as well as writing the book How to Sing. David’s agreed to give me a two-hour lesson, all geared towards performing one song – one great party trick.
Is this the first time you’ve ever taken voice lessons? If so, it may be wise to test the waters with a teacher that charges less. You’ll likely be covering basic techniques at the beginning, and anyone offering voice lessons can do at least that much.

As you might expect, young teachers just getting started are likely to recognize their limitations and charge less than instructors with years of experience molding up-and-coming stars in Los Angeles or New York.
You can practice singing scales like this as part of developing vocal control. Remember to choose scales which lie in your comfortable range. If that means you can only sing part of the scale, that’s fine. Remember you are just using this as a way of practising your vocal control.
I teach group lessons for newborn to 9 1/2 yrs: newborn – 18 mos, 18 mos – 3 1/2 yrs, 3 1/2 – 4 1/2 yrs, 4 1/2 – 61/2 and group Piano lessons for ages 6 1/2 to 9 1/2. I have taught young children for 25 years at 1st Methodist Church in Grapevine. We sing, dance, and play instruments. We work on duple and triple meter as well as learn solfeggio.  It’s fun and educational! 
For me, it did sound like a great deal and like a place where I will want to be 8 weeks later. Especially after spending about the same amount of weeks in face-to-face lessons that were showing slow results. So I went for it. How did it go? Keep readin’ to find out.

Since he made it clear that this distinction is not always the case when it comes to music, we have decided to add part of what he sent instead of changing the entire article.
Two Octave Scales: Provides maximum stretch on the vocal folds. Start in a low pitch and gently glide up the scale on a “me” sound. Don’t push the top or bottom of your range but do try to increase the range gently each time you do the scales. Now reverse and glide down the scale from the top to the bottom on an “e” sound. You can try this on the “oo” sound also.
Begin with your hands on your stomach, placed on top of each other. Breath deeply and serenely through your nose so that the breath makes your stomach expand. As you exhale, your abdomen should contract slightly. Your inhale should be deep to the full capacity extent in order to hold out notes and phrases, and for the purpose of singing in legato. The exhalation should be mellow and slow, conserving every last bit of breath to input into your voice before taking the next breath.

Mezzo Soprano – A mezzo soprano, also referred to as an “alto” in the choir world, is a woman with a lower voice. The mezzo soprano range is G3-A5. Some examples of famous mezzo soprano singers are Adele and Ella Fitzgerald.
One last point, and this is a big one. In general, if you are doing anything for your own pleasure, keep in mind you don’t have to be good. (Although I know how great the “being good” feels.) The only person you’d be in competition with is yourself and yourself past, and you’ll always be better than your past as long as you keep practicing, just as good as your are now. Instead of saying, “Holy cow, I’m bad at this,” say, “It was[…] not bad, but there’s always some room for improvement.” And no one better than you would say you’re bad at something. If someone says you’re not good, they’re not any better than you at that or something else. And anything is possible.
Drink water. If you think drinking water is only good for physical fitness, newsflash: it’s great for vocal health, too. Load up on the H20 to keep your vocal folds hydrated, healthy, and ready to go. Breath down low and keep good posture.

Ugh, I wish I could sing. I want to get into theatre acting (its my first job choice, I do have backups) but being able to sing is something that would really help me as musical theatre is big in the industry (well, where I live, its the only kind of theatre) and yeah. Its not shyness or anything like that because when I do perform, I am the most confident person ever its just my singing voice sounds like 100 cats being strangled :/ is there anything that could help me?

The next step is to learn to control your voice as you move from note to note. This is what allows you to sing a whole song and stay in tune with accurate pitch throughout. Without this skill you might sing your first note correctly but then hit the wrong note next or gradually go off key. If you’ve ever seen a karaoke performance which starts off strong but sounds worse and worse as the song goes on, this is probably the step which that singer skipped in their training!

You have to work through the modules one by one. You need to practice for a while before you move onto the next module. The course duration is about eight weeks, but you will start to see improvements much sooner than that, just like I did.
Man, I’ve seen a lot of questions here like that and I think the best way is to get an teacher. It is my oppinion. I think we can learn by ourselves but an experient teacher can make you progress faster and in the correct way.
Then again, even someone with exceptional vocal teaching skills may choose to charge a lower rate because they want to give everyone the chance to take singing lessons, no matter what their finance situation is like. Think about your specific goals and intentions as you’re searching for your teacher, and what you need in a teacher. It’s also smart to read through ratings or feedback from previous students to get a feel for the instructor’s teaching style and proficiency.
Some common mistakes to avoid are smiling while singing, under singing, over singing, pushing out too much air, and pushing beyond one’s natural range. These are common causes of damage of the vocal folds. Be cautioned of these.
