Many vocal auditions, competitions, and scholarship opportunities are based, at least partly, on a music theory exam or assessment. So learning music theory also opens up opportunities for you as a music student and a competitor.
Drink water. If you think drinking water is only good for physical fitness, newsflash: it’s great for vocal health, too. Load up on the H20 to keep your vocal folds hydrated, healthy, and ready to go. Breath down low and keep good posture.
Your voice is part of your whole body and it’s affected by the movement of surrounding muscles. You need to make sure your posture is correct, and that the supporting muscles, incuding shoulders and neck are relaxed and warm, otherwise you could strain your voice, and risk injury.
Of course, it’s one thing to sing freely in a rehearsal room, quite another to do so in public. And so, two days later, I head to All Star Lanes in Brick Lane, London, to test out my new skills. The pressure’s on: standing in front of my audience of six friends, I suddenly know exactly how it feels to be Chris Martin surveying Glastonbury’s Pyramid stage crowd. But the pressure doesn’t last long. Less than a minute into my rendition of Don’t Stop and my friend Jim turns to me: “Have you been taking singing lessons?” For the first time in his life, he doesn’t appear to be taking the piss. The night is 60 seconds old and it’s already an unqualified success.
In the Rockshow program, you are matched with other musicians at similar skill levels. With the help of an experienced band coach, your band will learn a few songs and get tips on performance techniques. After practicing two hours per week in one of our rehearsal rooms, your group will perform a concert on the last Saturday of the month.
The next step is to work on your vocal power. Vocal power requires proper breathing and diaphragm control. Add some breathing exercises to your daily warm-up, and pay attention to correct positioning of your jaw, mouth, and body to help with this.
Hi, I have been playing music about 8 year and I love it. my patient is that other people to be best on what they do. I have a band call Kingdom Revival that is where I play most of the time. We host Night of Worship and Revival to Church. I will to be apart of your life to teach you how to play and enjoying what you love to play.
Aaron!!!! Am I crazy to think that in only 6 days I have seen a tremendous improvement in my voice!!?!? I felt and heard it while singing, but I wanted to make sure so I recorded myself and BAM- so much more powerful. Thank you sooooo much. This is amazing…You totally saved me!
This isn’t a “hearing test”, it’s not checking for hearing damage or age-related hearing loss. And don’t worry about whether you have a “musical ear” or not. The tone deaf tests which are well-designed don’t require any musical knowledge or skill. They test only the basic biological ability of distinguishing different pitches. You can be totally unmusical and still pass the test, because tone deafness isn’t actually about musical skill, it’s much more fundamental than that.
Lessons are usually held once a week, although advanced students may work with their teacher three times or more each week. A teacher is often primarily a voice technique teacher, who teaches you how to sing, or mainly a voice coach, who shows you what to sing to take best advantage of your voice.
Also, Aimee is a teacher during and after the lesson. One of the things I appreciate most about here is that after every lesson she takes the time to prepare a sheet for me to practice, and whenever I pick a song I want to learn for the following week, she does research and preparation on it, so by the time the lesson comes, she has always great pointers and suggestions for me.
That is not unusual. It’s sounds like your vocal cords are a bit farther apart which makes a “breathier” sound and the singer has trouble managing the airflow to create volume. The solution is to practice vocal technique scales – in particular “ee” vowels to pull the cords together and be able to sing with more tone and volume.
Each lesson is tailored to the student’s unique needs. I use music that will suit the student’s voice and experience level, and will help the student to improve in certain areas. Also, I allow students to bring in their own music that they would like to work on. I have had students bring in music for upcoming auditions, church solos, and even pieces solely for entertainment.
Pollen season or other allergies hit, you get rear-nasal drip, and it drips down to your vocal cords and irritates them. Prescription allergy medicines can overly dry out your cords. Instead, clean out your nose with saline then line it with vaseline or its equivalent. This prevents the allergens from getting into your system and setting you off. This won’t help after an allergic reaction, but do it first thing in the morning as a preventative measure during allergy season.
I would like to say Steven was an amazing piano teacher for my 5 year old and he really was able to teach him a lot of the basics and some neat tunes. He is great with kids and with my child being 5 and needing a lot of patience it was really a breeze for Steven to teach and keep his attention during the lesson. He is definitely a natural at what he does! I am very satisfied with Steven and his style of teaching. He is a well deserved five star rating and I can not wait till my son gets to start guitar lessons with him in the future.

I just had my first piano lesson with Robert where he worked to improve my piano playing technique as well as expand my skills into other areas such as improvisation. The lesson went very well. I look froward to expanding my skills in future lessons.

Wow, great tips I’ll be using! Seriously trying to become a Christian contemporary artist, and trying out for an audition next Friday. A vocal coach, also known as a voice coach (though this term often applies to those working with speech and communication rather than singing) is a music teacher, usually a piano accompanist, who helps singers prepare for a performance, often also helping them to improve their singing technique and take care of and develop their voice, but is not the same as a singing teacher (also called a “voice teacher”). Vocal coaches may give private music lessons or group workshops or masterclasses to singers. They may also coach singers who are rehearsing on stage, or who are singing during a recording session. Vocal coaches are used in both Classical music and in popular music styles such as rock and gospel. While some vocal coaches provide a range of instruction on singing techniques, others specialize in areas such as breathing techniques or diction and pronunciation.
Raspy voices usually come from dehydration so be sure you get a lot of water! 8-10 glasses per day. Cracks happen from allergies and reflux. Stay away from acidic foods (orange juice, marinara sauce and fried foods are the biggest offenders.) Cracks also happen frequently to weak voices and you can strengthen yours with vocal training – start here https://www.caricole.com/singersgift
With a vocal instructor, your time is limited, and it is difficult to go back to your lessons if you have progressed to a certain level. And what if you are scheduled to go to vocal class today and just

Tiago is 100% correct here. You really are better at anything you do when you do it with confidence, I haven’t haven’t sang in a while since I lost my guitar but I use to have half@sssd confidence in it. I started singing again tonight and was confident anything is achievable if you set your mind (also had a lot of complements about my ability which helps) and I have been singing better then I ever have before, all day today. When you don’t believe in your abilities you don’t give it your all, the key is believing in yourself completely so can give it everything you have, without sabotaging yourself due to worry that your best isn’t good enough. Your mind is your own best friend and worst enemy.
Andrew, I don’t believe anyone can teach you how to sing. You have to teach yourself – the same way that you learned how to eat and speak and walk. You have to find your singing voice and then develop it – just like you found your balance on two legs and then learned how to run. Also you cannot be shy about it – it won’t work if you are.
Now for your, starting to get a better sense of pitch, I want you start thinking of your notes as circles. You want to aim for the bullseye. The best way to do this and do it well is to record yourself and listen back. The first thing in determining whether you are singing on pitch is understanding whether you are singing sharp, on the sharp side, or the flat side of the note. I like to take it to the max first. Let’s sing at the center of pitch and then go outside of the pitch, so that you can hear that difference.
3 stars because it doesn’t always work… all the sudden my pitch won’t show up on the screen…. that it kind of the whole point. This seems to be because of a sort of crackling that makes it try to decide between a really low pitch or high pitch and it ends up just giving up. I would blame this on the headphones, but they’re from Apple and do very clear audio recordings. Or it just won’t work at all. But normally, the dot will move and twitch between a really low pitch and the pitch I’m actually at
Vocal Tip: A great way to isolate proper breathing muscles is to lie down on the floor on one’s back and place a book over lower abs. As a singer inhales, the book should be rising up. This method is easy to execute and will give one a beautiful vibrato and an agile voice, capable of singing trill and turns.
Give your voice a workout with this online singing class! You’ll learn how to make your songs stand out with techniques like crescendos and decrescendos. Several fun singing exercises will also help you sing a song in key with confidence, and add your own personal touch.
You’ve learned all the basics, and you’ve been listening to all the greats for inspiration, but remember: you simply cannot expect to improve without regular practice! Practice singing everyday, if possible.
It doesn’t really matter if you are a Christian or not, or whether you believe the message in the lyrics or not, although it helps. All sorts of musician have gotten their start this way for centuries.
Aaron demonstrates how the exercises are supposed to be done and explains them in detail. The additional explanation allows you to start doing them right away, in the correct way, without needing much assistance.
When selecting the person who will help you achieve greatness and eventually get into a program or school of your dreams, look for someone who has managed to work as a Singer or Vocalist of some kind before.
We all know those few amazing singers who are famous for their wide vocal ranges – Mariah Carey for her five octaves, Ariana Grande for her full voice and head voice notes, and Toni Braxton for those low sultry notes.

Born in Tunisia and raised in South Africa and England before arriving in New York, singer-songwriter Anya Singleton’s critically-acclaimed album “The Other Side” has garnered national radio play, charting in the top 10 on the CMJ as well as on Pandora Radio. Anya has been featured in Blender magazine, Filter magazine, and Details magazine, and she was awarded an Editor’s Pick Award by All Music Guide. An established vocal coach and teacher, she has taught at the Professional Performing Arts School in NYC and the NJ Governor’s School of the Arts.
So far I sing Fly Me to the Moon by Tony Bennett and Frank Sinatra we’ll, still need to work on Dynamics, and Soft Attacks on the Power Phrases, but my instructor wants me to learn and practice Against All Odds, holy moly that song is very hard for me, not sure what is holding me back, I realized tonight that the phrases are a lot longer and there is less time to breathe in for the next one, any Suggestions ?? My mind is stuck in trying to impersonate the artist and duplicate their sound vs using my own natural voice.
– Not really a con – but the course demands dedication every day (or close to every day) for two months. 10-15 minutes a day is not much and it’s extra time that everyone has, but again – make sure that you really want it and willing to put in the efforts.
Private singing lessons and vocal coaching focus on vocal health, breath control, blending the registers, flexibility, range, increasing resonance and projection in addition to building a rich song repertoire. Deborah listens to each voice and strives to bring out the innate vocal potential of every singer. Each voice will blossom forth freely with a safe and healthy vocal technique, which will ensure longevity. Singing lessons will bring out the best in your voice.
As I mentioned, in the beginning stages, before you’ve enrolled in a full-time singing or music college degree program, you shouldn’t have to spend too much of your hard-earned cash on vocal coaching. You’ll end up paying for exactly that once you are accepted into a university. If you have unlimited resources, go with a super expensive Teacher who has the prestige of once topping the charts, but if you’re not in the one percent and you need to watch where your pennies go (especially since you’ll likely be spending them later on anyway), it’s fine to look for someone who fits your limited budget.
I teach group lessons for newborn to 9 1/2 yrs: newborn – 18 mos, 18 mos – 3 1/2 yrs, 3 1/2 – 4 1/2 yrs, 4 1/2 – 61/2 and group Piano lessons for ages 6 1/2 to 9 1/2. I have taught young children for 25 years at 1st Methodist Church in Grapevine. We sing, dance, and play instruments. We work on duple and triple meter as well as learn solfeggio. It’s fun and educational!
First, read through any instructions and go over the videos. The things you will learn in the first lessons will help you through the next lessons. On the sixth day, you will be practicing all the exercises and techniques you learned in the previous five lessons.
You will start with the fundamentals of singing in the first module, and then progress to breath management, mastering vocal tone, improving pitch, signing with power and resonance, hitting higher notes, improving vocal agility, and finally learning techniques for strengthening your voice.
maybe you cant, but to be honest….. let someone else judge you. A human will always certainly “down criticize his own traits (voice included)”. Let someone who u know will be 100% honest judge you. Best choice would be a person that cant sing himself but listens to shit loads of vocals. Trust me im a pioneer 😉
