Hi, I love singing and I always try to imitate any voice I listen to.. I also have this natural baritone to tenor voice but every time I try using my natural voice to sing to any song I’m listening to I just find it difficult to do so because I feel I’m note hitting d notes right and so I switch to copying the voice. This can be intimidating and unnerving at first – but it’s still less scary than singing in front of other people, right? You can be alone in your room to do it, and the only person who’ll ever hear the recordings is you. So there’s nothing to be embarrassed about.
Every singer has a range of notes their voice is physically capable of producing. There are advanced techniques and long-term training which can extend this, but as a beginner you want to make sure you stay comfortable in your “easy” range. As soon as you start stretching your voice too high or too low your pitching will suffer (and so will your listeners!)
Jaw Release: Reduces tension in the mouth and jaw area during speaking and singing. Place the heels of each hand directly below the cheek bone. Pushing in and down from the cheeks to the jaw, massage the facial muscles. Allow your jaw to passively open as you move the hands down the face. Repeat several times.
Vocal Tip: A great way to isolate proper breathing muscles is to lie down on the floor on one’s back and place a book over lower abs. As a singer inhales, the book should be rising up. Once you get the hang of extending the vowel sound focus on listening to the qualities of it – eg. volume (can you produce loud or soft?); pitch range (can you make the sound high or low?); pitch constancy (can you hold one pitch? Can you visit other pitches in the same breath?)

In 2014 I worked for a few months in New Orleans – one of the world’s biggest music capitals. I decided that after years of playing music, it was a great opportunity to learn how to sing too. Stay within the key. It is similar to singing harmonies when other notes can be sung in conjunction with the main note. Experiment! The voice is to simply expand as the vocal voice comes up as your real singing voice. I definitely understand where you are coming from. I couldnt hit high notes with good tone literallu a few weeks ago. Now that I know how to sing more correct I can definitely understand her anologies. Singing is hard to teach, I imagine because people are stubborn lol

That is not unusual. It’s sounds like your vocal cords are a bit farther apart which makes a “breathier” sound and the singer has trouble managing the airflow to create volume. The soft pallet should always be raised. The object is to leave as much hollow space on the inner part of your mouth, so as to produce a sound that is round and full. Lower your tongue, allowing it to rest on the bottom of the mouth. Elongate the jaw slightly. Your lips should form a small, round, circular, shape. Be sure not to open your mouth too much, as it may block the hollow passage of the roof of your mouth.

Basically, you need to record yourself and practice often. If your like me, you will hate the sound of your own voice at first. Don’t worry, you will get better. Most importantly, don’t hurt yourself. If you find a teacher that claims singing is “athletic”, find a new teacher.
