Practice hitting the high notes. High notes are the icing on top of the cake: not always necessary, but really wonderful when done right. You probably already know your range by now, so you also know which high notes you can hit and which ones you can’t. Be sure to practice hitting the ones you can’t yet reach. Practice will make perfect.
A proper warm-up is incredibly important before using your voice, as is staying hydrated at all times, which keeps your vocal cords from getting irritated. You also might notice specific foods that affect your voice. Some singers find that they don’t perform well after eating or drinking dairy, for example.
You’ve finally written a song and you know it’s good. So why not enter a songwriting competition and see how you stack up against other songwriters? Don’t worry it isn’t as hard as you might think, and as long as you follow these guides, you should do just fine. I know how difficult it is for someone joining for the first time, but there’s really nothing to it. Continue Reading »
So, how do you strengthen your pitch-matching abilities? One method is simple aural drills. Start by playing a note on a piano to find your pitch. Sing along, and then subtly slide your pitch one way, and then back to the note. You’ll start training your ear to hear the varying pitches.
If you feel comfortable after awhile, ask to join the church choir. Then you can start learning more demanding and challenging vocal music, and you will have an opportunity to learn, practice and rehearse with some structure and some goals in mind, every Wednesday night and Sunday morning, for free.

I know that for me, I enjoy getting to put the spotlight on my students. I also like haveing concerts for my students to be able to demonstrate their skills for their friends and family. I also can work with students of any age, starting at about age 5 through age 100+. My experiences with teaching children gives me the ability to teach even very young students.
I’m sad to leave when our two hours are up yet I’m also on a massive high: all that air flowing through your body gives you an endorphin rush not dissimilar to a session in the gym. Have I mastered singing Don’t Stop by the time I leave? Far from it, but I feel I’ve gained a good grasp of the basics. And although I detect an element of sarcasm in my wife’s comments when I get home – “bloody hell, it’s Scott Walker!” – it’s undeniable that a whole range of previously unattainable baritone notes has been opened up to me.
I have a range from eb2 to g6 but i really want to sing from f4 to b4. I dont know how to release tension and I really want some tip. My singing voice went wrong when I was 15, 5 years ago. Please can you give me one good tip.
Another approach is to join a community choir. While some choirs require auditions, others do not (particularly church choirs, but not exclusively religious). The choirs I’ve sung in have included work on technique, not just learning the repertoire.
Alfred, Your break is perfectly normal. It’s called “the pssaggio”. The way to fix the break is to train your voice with vocal technique the build strength in the pssaggio or “break” area. Singers are like athletes who need to train the small muscles of the voice to improve performance. Start with these https://www.caricole.com/singersgift In time your break will smooth out and your range will expand as a result! Good luck and keep us posted!

Started working with Marjorie on a whim. It turned out to be one of the best spur of the moment decisions I’ve ever made. To start off, I had absolutely no background in singing. I do a lot of public speaking so wanted to work on my enunciation. So I decided to go the extreme and learn to sing. If you can sing in front of people, you have no problem enunciating.

Wondering how to be a better singer? There’s more to it than knowing how to use your voice. Read on as teacher Tony F. explains…   Do you love to sing? Is singing the first thing on your mind in the morning and the last thing at night? If you can answer yes to those questions, you might be what’s known as (cue the Star Wars theme music, maestro)… a singer. Symptoms may include: rocking your head to a favorite song as you sing along while driving down the road… an unbalanced a
It doesn’t really matter if you are a Christian or not, or whether you believe the message in the lyrics or not, although it helps. All sorts of musician have gotten their start this way for centuries.
The big challenge for most new singers is handling leaps in pitch. Moving between notes which are close together is relatively easy, but when there’s a leap (e.g. think of the first two notes of “Somewhere over the rainbow”, “Some – where”) it can become quite hard to accurately hit that second note dead-on.
Try not to avoid the warm up. Warm up your voice everyday, Famous Vocal Coaching said that Finding a voice is not an easy task. Know your reach and its limits. When singing, your breathing ought to be profound, low, and supported. spend as much time practicing as you will in front of an audience.
3 stars because it doesn’t always work… all the sudden my pitch won’t show up on the screen…. that it kind of the whole point. This seems to be because of a sort of crackling that makes it try to decide between a really low pitch or high pitch and it ends up just giving up. I would blame this on the headphones, but they’re from Apple and do very clear audio recordings. Or it just won’t work at all. But normally, the dot will move and twitch between a really low pitch and the pitch I’m actually at
Place the feet shoulder width apart and slightly bend your legs. (to ensure they are not locked, as locking the knees for a lengthy period of time could result in unconsciousness.) The back should be straight. Your neck should line up with the rest of your spine. The head should be not be tilted to either side. Focus the gaze straight ahead, keeping it relaxed.
3 bad habits to avoid would be: (don’t worry too much, though… a lot of good singers do this) Clearing your throat. It grinds your vocal folds together. (I’m guilty of that. 😞) Don’t even think about it. It makes you want to. Also, don’t sing way out of your comfortable range. Who isn’t guilty of this? Many popular male singers (me too) sing way higher they probably should. Don’t drink anything but water before, and don’t eat anything sticky/sweet before. It makes it harder to sing and reduces your vocal range.
Finally, another manual called superior vibrato comes as a bonus. The 12 page manual on how to use vibrato vocal techniques. The book will help make your song and your singing voice sound so much better.

One of the things I am constantly teaching my private clients is that the voice is an instrument inside your body and you have to learn how to use it to get the most out of it. It’s very “physical” on the foundational level. To have a strong voice and to have vocal consistency there are certain things you have to know and do. There are some really simple methods you can use, right now, to get a great sound out of your instrument.

A. Sometimes due to life choices, an adult with all sorts of talent and music training may stop singing for a while. That might be due to family, or fear, or perfectionism, or just not getting enough good luck at the right time. But because the foundation is there, one can pick it up again and get a really good sound together, and probably have a more emotional performance from all that life experience. I won’t fool you, it is just a little harder to generate contacts to get your foot in the door. But it can be done. Start practicing again.  I say, if you’ve got to do it, then just do it. Read More about what you will learn in Voice Lessons.

Hey, I know you published this ages ago, but I hope you will still see and hopefully answer this question. Maureen received her Master of Music from the University of Maryland 2017 with an emphasis in Opera Performance. Her teaching style is tailored for each individual student, in that what works for one student won’t necessarily work for the next (particularly in regards to singers), and strives towards finding the optimal method that encourages and helps students to improve. She firmly believes that anyone who is willing to dedicate the time and effort to learning a new instrument is capable of doing so, and looks forward to helping new students achieve their goals.
I received my BBA in Finance from the University of Texas at Arlington; through college and to the present, I have received over 25 years of performing/directing experience from overseeing two mega-church music ministries. At these ministries, I served as the department head, responsible for lead piano, directing, arranging, worship leading, and departmen
Sirens/Kazoo Buzz: Improves the resonant focus of the sound and continues work with maximal stretch on the vocal folds. The mouth postures are easily made by pretending you are sucking in spaghetti with an inhalation. On exhalation make the “woo” sound. It will be a buzz like sound. Hold the sound steady for 2-3 attempts. Now use the woo sound to go up and down the scales.
Accompaniment by a pianist is often part of vocal coaching. The vocal coach may double as a vocal coach and as an accompanist. In other cases, the vocal coach may hire an accompanist to play during the coaching sessions. Piano is one of the most common instruments used for accompaniment, as it can be used to play basslines, chords and melodies at the same time. Other instruments may also be used (e.g., guitar, Hammond organ, etc.) but are less common.
I’m going to give you one of the greatest tips that I know about singing higher notes. Now, don’t hear me wrong, though, extending your range takes time and discipline. However, this will move you down that road a little more quickly……
Some recognize notes and enjoy a melody, but say they can’t sing or play. I say you can sing and you can play. If you just follow the proper singing lessons and proper instrument basics, you can sing and play. It is not difficult but simple. All you have to do is to put some effort. Just to practice and that is all what matters.
Once I decided that I wanted to become a better singer, I didn’t know where to start. To rise above other singers in the field who are amazingly talented, I knew I had to improve my voice. How can I achieve this?

At first, I had the same thing in mind but I was mistaken. Aside from what I had already mentioned here, the Superior Singing Method includes a system that enables you to ask the professionals questions or clarifications.
Touch Piano! is a free piano app, perfect for when you need to hear a starting note to make sure you’re singing on pitch. If you like singing a cappella or have an upcoming audition, this app is a must for you!
your chest with both hands, then, raise your chest higher than normal. Take a breath in and then exhale, but don’t drop your chest. Sing one note and hold it as long as possible with your chest raised. Press on your chest halfway through the note (press kind of hard and raise your chest to meet the pressure). Relax the back of your neck and keep your jaw open as you’re singing “ahhh.” Imagine the air spinning around in your mouth while keeping your chin tucked down a bit and your chest raised. Keep in mind, overuse of vibrato is not a good thing in contemporary singing (pop, rock, and R&B). At the same time, no vibrato is also not a good thing. So, try ending phrases with straight tone, then into a little bit of vibrato. The bottom line is to do what’s best for you.
A very useful framework for practising vocal control is solfa (a.k.a. “solfege” or “do re mi”). This is a system where you give a name to each note in the scale, which makes it easier to understand which note you’re aiming for each time you change pitch.
