Fortunately there’s even a simple and fast way to check if you’re tone deaf. You can take an ear test online in just a few minutes and find out for certain whether tone deafness is responsible for your difficulty singing. Take one of these tone deafness tests and you’ll be one step closer to understanding what holds you back as a singer.
Now, it’s important to do the warm ups before doing the strengthening exercises, of course, because you don’t want to add unnecessary strain to your voice or even damage it. Just like you would never see a runner refuse to stretch his or her legs before a race, it’s unwise to jump right into performance singing or strengthening exercises without having readied your voice with warm up exercises.

There is a lot that needs to be learned before a single sound comes out of your mouth. With certain tips you can increase your ability to sing before doing a single vocal scale. The second, of this two-fold learning process, is, of course, vocal exercises. And vocal exercises are broken in to two separate types, which is a very important distinction to know, so that you don’t spend all your time on one type and never really have the breakthrough in your voice that you really want. So, in this article you will discover…
Agents took notice because I sang like a pro, not like an amateur. Most importantly, I made a full time income from singing. Not only did that more than pay off my investment in singing education, it meant I didn’t have to work a crappy job. I just sang. And I got paid.
Hello, my name is Ben and GUITAR IS MY BUSINESS…AND MY BUSINESS IS GOOD so please consider me. I’ve been playing guitar for over 18 years and have been in playing bands for 12 years. Recently after the band broke up, I decided to further my education and went to Musicians Institute in Hollywood California. There I was taught by the best guitar players in the world. Marty Friedman, Paul Gilbert, Scott Henderson, Tommy Emmanuel and Johnny Hiland were just a few of the great players who gave clinics there. I received a degree in Guitar Performance and the knowledge I received there made me UNDERSTAND the mystery that is the guitar.
I was ok at staying in tune. But some singers also struggle with that too. But they think singing in tune is a “natural talent” that some people just don’t have. “Natural Talent” is a mis-leading term.
Every singer has a range of notes their voice is physically capable of producing. There are advanced techniques and long-term training which can extend this, but as a beginner you want to make sure you stay comfortable in your “easy” range. As soon as you start stretching your voice too high or too low your pitching will suffer (and so will your listeners!)
The key focus here is the voice. This is a classical training method used in the days when people had no microphones. Before the invention of microphones, a singer’s voice had to carry throughout audience. This took a lot of emphasis on tone and resonance.
Expand your vocal range with Christina. Learn her secrets for nailing those high notes and building your range. Use the Range Finder tool at the end of the lesson to put into practice what you’ve learned.
Now let’s move on to what the different types of voices are. There are five general categories of voice types. Three are for men and two are for women. We’ll list each voice type here along with a short description of each.
Your singing voice is greatly affected by your posture and state of muscles. This is why it’s imperative that you avoid putting your body under tension. If your body is in any way distressed, it will be reflected when you sing and your singing voice won’t be excellent. Being relaxed will help you sound very good when you sing. The posture to adopt in order to achieve an excellent voice when you sing is to stand erect, look forward, keep your shoulders relaxed, and space out your feet so that they are parallel to your shoulders. Ensure your back is straight. The right singing posture will help you to avoid unnecessary muscle tension and thus making your singing sound very good.
Arms – When you aren’t gesturing, you should be relaxing your arms at your sides. Don’t make fists, clasp your hands, or fidget with your clothes. This adds tension and makes you look (and feel) nervous.
Students who already have a wide vocal range and the ability to match pitch will progress faster than those who weren’t born with these talents. Either way, each of these talents can be developed with the right amount of practice.
Less than 3% of the general population actually exhibit tone deafness. This has been shown in a large number of tests and rigorous scientific studies, and so the probability of you being tone deaf is very small.

You make use of the chest voice when speaking. This voice can be used to produce a rich, full-bodies sound. Higher pitched notes are produced by the head voice, and it’s more often than not created by female singers. The middle voice acts to some extent as a bridge connecting the head voice and the chest voice. These three types of singing voices are the fundamentals of singing. You must first learn this fundamentals before you can start practicing. You should as well ensure you have a plan to follow, so that you can learn how to sing correctly.

Breathing is also an important factor in singing. You will produce a pleasant tone if you work with your breathing. Conversely, singing at the same time as you’re out of breath will result in you exerting too much tension on your voice and may eventually lead to injury. If you want to achieve an excellent tone when singing, then you must breathe deeply (don’t inhale with your mouth, rather use your nose) through your lower lungs and exhale using your nose and mouth. Breath support helps to prevent you from straining your throat, and thus enabling you to produce a pleasant tone.
Think of practicing singing as you would exercise. Exercising every day improves your coordination and muscular ability. Using your voice every day improves the coordination and muscular abilities involved with breathing, lifting the soft palate, and relaxing the rest of the body.

Everyone can ‘learn’ to sing. Once they have a greater understanding of the methods, then they can apply what they have learned to practical exercises that will help them along the path to reaching their voice’s harmonious potential.

Theory and Ear-training I feel are very important to learn when trying to understand music. It just gives you a basic mathematical way of understanding how music works. It can be very frustrating to learn and takes some time to sink in so if you don’t want to learn it then that is great. Ear-training is cool because when you start to understand it you can actually hear music and not just listen to it. You can listen to a chord progression on the radio and go home and play it and also improvise over it.
Each voice type (soprano, tenor, bass, etc.) has a different vocal range associated with it. Simply stated, your vocal range is the span from the lowest note to the highest note your voice can produce.

Start with a few simple things: pay attention to your nutrition and health in general, including eating well, staying hydrated, not smoking, and getting enough sleep. From there, watch how your health influences your singing.
