For beginning piano students at the pre-reading level (ages 3-6ish) I like to use the Faber “My First Piano Adventure” series. I love that this series enforces solid technique in a fun, child-friendly way.
A course that will give you easy access to the developer of the online course is your best bet. If you come across a hitch in your lessons and you can readily confer with your vocal coach, it makes learning less difficult.
Be mindful of tempos and keys. Every decade of your adult life (between ages 15-25, again at 25-35 and again after 50) your vocal timbre and range is different. You have to allow for these changes in adjusting keys, tempos and song selection.
Ideally you want a program that loosens you up, make you’re voice more flexible, build up your range, and perhaps add new “colors” to your sound. For example, if you can only sing loud or slow, you’ll want to add lighter contrasting tones to make your song emotions more varied. Singing lessons should stretch your range and build breath control and body strength, without interfering with your vocal personality. In fact, lessons should give you more tools to try more unique things! Probably the best thing about lessons is learning how to have power without straining. Poor pitch and a thinning or small range is just a symptom of a more fundamental problem with straining or support. Read More about Vocal Evaluations.
It doesn’t really matter if you are a Christian or not, or whether you believe the message in the lyrics or not, although it helps. All sorts of musician have gotten their start this way for centuries.
If you can’t find any teacher or you are too shy to sing through it, try to practice singing with your friend who loves to hear you sing or loves singing. Ask them to come to your home and go practice in a small room and keep on doing it till you’ve done it for five or six months. It really does help.
This happens because your voice actually sounds different to you than other people. This is due to the physics of sound being carried inside your body as well as outside through the air when you hear it. When you hear a recording you are actually hearing what other people hear when you sing.
People who want to get feedback on their vocal pitch, frequency, and intensity will truly love the concept behind Aaron Anastasi’s SSM. This program has already become one of the Internet’s most popular downloadable courses and its no surprise why – I loved it.
I honestly don’t know. I don’t put much hope or trust into anything free on the internet let alone singing on the internet. I’m one of the few of my colleagues that refuses to do online voice lessons.
Voice lessons usually cost from $10-$35 for a half-hour lesson in most areas. However, professional-level instructors may charge as much as $100-$200 or more an hour, depending on their expertise and reputation. Typically beginners start with half-hour sessions, although they can be 45 minutes or an hour, depending on the teacher’s preference. Some teachers or music schools provide a free initial consultation to determine your current singing range and potential; others may charge $10-$40 or more for this service. Generally, lessons are paid for in advance, at the first of every month.

I also can work with students of any age, starting at about age 5 through age 100+. My experiences with teaching children gives me the ability to teach even very young students.
Neck – Your neck is a part of your spine. Streamline it with the rest of your spine rather than craning it forward. If you balance your head on your A-O joint, your neck should move into this position.
So, this has been a long answer to a seemingly simple question, ‘Can anyone learn to sing?’ At IVA we believe that yes, most people can learn to sing. However, depending on the severity of the problem, it will take some time and effort on your part. With the right teacher and lots of practice, you can get there!

A vocal coach didn’t really seem like a good option. I wanted to be a REAL singer – someone who did this professionally. And being from a small town (read: not New York or LA) I didn’t think any of the local song coaches could take me to that level.
To aid with the practice of this breathing technique, (which is also used for meditations) place hands on the tummy to feel the correct movements. For men, a tight belt can also be worn to push against.
Imagine taking a music lesson for the first time. Imagine your favorite instrument; the one you’ve always dreamed of playing – for me it is the violin. So I’m at my first violin lesson. The first time I pull the bow across the strings a horrible screeching sound emits from the violin. Awful! I try a few more times and the sounds only get worse. It’s not that I’m inherently terrible at playing the violin; it’s just that I don’t yet have the skills to play it.
A lot of breathing exercises incorporate singing different sounds on pitches and working up and down the scale. Making sure you breathe from your belly and support your voice throughout the entire exercise is the key to power.
You are probably already well aware that the costs involved in hiring a private singing tutor can be very high. For most people that is a cost they simply cannot afford or justify, especially when they are just starting out on their journey on the road to songster brilliance. On the flip side, taking vocal training lessons online can cost a fraction of that price and be extremely affordable and attractive, most especially for beginners.
