As both a top music conservatory and large private university graduate, I have a unique skill set and vantage point when it comes to teaching music. Based on a traditional approach, I adapt my lessons for the 21st century and provide a well-rounded music education including performance, technology, theory, and musicality.
The next thing with pitch is using the piano or using an instrument as a guide, which is really helpful. And the third thing is to sing a cappella a lot. But here’s the thing with that, if you’re going to sing A cappella, I’d like you to find what key the song is in and use an iPhone app or something, a piano app, to actually hit the note first for you, so that you are in the right key, if you are going to sing A cappella. And that’s a trick for singing a cappella songs in general. If you are going to go for an audition, you want to make sure that you don’t come in on the wrong note or in the wrong key, and then all of a sudden you are singing way higher than you need to. You want to be in the right key.

Some recognize notes and enjoy a melody, but say they can’t sing or play. I say you can sing and you can play. If you just follow the proper singing lessons and proper instrument basics, you can sing and play. It is not difficult but simple. All you have to do is to put some effort. Just to practice and that is all what matters.
So there you have it. Now if you would like to dive deeper and learn how to sing Falsetto or Vibrato or else how to increase your vocal range, feel free to browse my site and read my comprehensive posts about each subject.
I would like to say Steven was an amazing piano teacher for my 5 year old and he really was able to teach him a lot of the basics and some neat tunes. He is great with kids and with my child being 5 and needing a lot of patience it was really a breeze for Steven to teach and keep his attention during the lesson. He is definitely a natural at what he does! I am very satisfied with Steven and his style of teaching. He is a well deserved five star rating and I can not wait till my son gets to start guitar lessons with him in the future.
Last but not least, one of the most important qualities a singer can have is not necessarily a beautiful voice, but confidence! If you are firmly planted on the stage with a relaxed presence, you’re inviting your audience in and opening up your voice.
We’ve all had one at some point or another – a bad audition. You prepare like crazy for that singing competition that you swear up and down you’re going to nail. However, despite 30 minutes of scales first thing in the morning and an entire day in line spent practicing, you walk into the audition with your head held oh-so-high only to walk out feeling like your head was handed back to you on a lovely silver platter. Below are a few singers who didn’t quite measure up to the singing competitio

Beyond lessons, the camp has given her a new community … The Colonie High School senior got started singing with the band camp about three years ago. “In a matter of months, I had performed songs on bass guitar, drums, and both electric and acoustic …
I take a physiological approach to singing… after all it is a physical endeavor.  The voice or larynx, despite all its complexities, is just another set of muscles that can be trained to reach its fullest potential.  The method that I teach, “The Franco/Italian Bel Canto Method” has been taught in Europe for more than 200 years and has produced the world’s greatest classical singers.  Now having said that let me assure you studying this method doesn’t mean that you have to become a classical singer.  The techniques used are designed to strengthen and improve the quality o

Now for your, starting to get a better sense of pitch, I want you start thinking of your notes as circles. You want to aim for the bullseye. The best way to do this and do it well is to record yourself and listen back. The first thing in determining whether you are singing on pitch is understanding whether you are singing sharp, on the sharp side, or the flat side of the note. I like to take it to the max first. Let’s sing at the center of pitch and then go outside of the pitch, so that you can hear that difference.
Pretty much anyone can sing. Of course, some are more naturally skilled than others, but even a poor voice can be improved with a little dedication and practice. Whether your voice graces the shower or the stage, there are several steps you can take to boost your pipes. Start with the basics, including proper posture, breathing, and vocal techniques. Once you’ve got those down, practice singing regularly. Enlist the help of a teacher, voice coach, or instructional videos so your voice shines.
Your voice is a delicate instrument. While a pianist can practice for hours upon hours every day, singers cannot. Why? Unlike other instruments, the entire vocal apparatus is a sensitive part of your body.
The doctor  will use a “Scope”- a little video camera on the end of a teeny cord- to determine if you have nodules or some type of tissue damage. He/she will also determine if you have an infection or allergy that has made your vocal cords inflamed. (Females with hormonal problems can have their vocal health yo-yo about.) The E.N.T. should check if you have GERD- acid reflux- where stomach acids are burning your vocal cords. Once all medical conditions are ruled out or treated, see a voice teacher who can evaluate if you are straining, if your song keys are wrong, and such. Then take a few months of lessons- 3 should do it,- and reverse any bad habits. You also need a custom warm-up routine to use before performing. Ask your voice teacher to evaluate your live show. You could be doing something different up there that is blowing you out. Read About Singers Secrets for maintaining a healthy voice.

“”Roger Love‘s Singing Academy has taught me how to sing with confidence. His lessons are really easy to follow, even when teaching tricks that I thought only professionals could pull off. Roger is better than any other voice teacher I‘ve had because his teaching style is funny and engaging, and I could take each lesson as many times as I wanted. I‘m really happy I took this course, and highly recommend it to anyone who wants to take their singing to the next level.”

If you’re sitting, the same things apply. Move to the front half of the seat, and keep both of your feet flat on the floor. Don’t cross your legs. Keeping your body in line allows for more control and sustained singing without strain. Try to keep your back straight, and avoid touching the back of the seat.
Without a doubt, you’ll find parts you weren’t happy with. Don’t criticise yourself for this! Every negative thing you notice is an opportunity to improve. Like when you found out you weren’t tone deaf, this just shows that you have the awareness you need to be able to improve. Exciting!

Breathing: breathing properly has been mentioned over and over again to be the crux of singing well. Keep your shoulders relaxed and down and avoid raising them whenever you take in breath. You can do this by strengthening your muscles in the back and in the rib cage with exercises specifically for breathing.
This style of church music deliberately uses simple melodies in simple rhythms, with a narrow range of pitches that are easy for non-trained singers to sing. Michelle was a FANTASTIC instructor! 🙂 I had a really hard time choosing instructors but I am so glad I picked her. Without much prior singing experience, I auditioned and made it into the fifth best choir in the world but I couldn’t have done it without Michelle‘s help! People in the choir were surprised that I was auditioning in without having been in a chorus before. She really knows what she’s talking about and is encouraging and uses every minute of the lessons wisely. I can’t believe how much I improved in just five lessons! Definitely would recommend Michelle!
