Even a pro singer like me likes to keep up to date on technique. I first had pro singing lessons back in the early 2000’s, but in 2012 I purchased the 4 Pillars of singing course as I was intrigued by Robert’s technique. His training helped me develop my head voice to be more powerful, and helped me remove resistance in my vocal break.
This doesn’t mean that you have to practice for long periods of time. Make shorter practice sessions strategic yet fun! Create your own silly warm-ups — try singing with “nonsense” words, or make a simple song your warm-up.
Many singers that we hear on the radio today are professional. Are they actually ‘trained’ in the art of singing? Only a few are actually reared to be singers. Others might have a natural singing voice, which does exist, and is enough to get them by at their professional level. Others might be great songwriters and even play a few instruments and have a strong enough voice and message that entices the public. But, do they actually know how they are producing those sounds that are appealing to their modern day listening audience? Maybe.
For more power, you often need to learn how to control your tongue. The placement of your tongue can cause problems as you try and sing with more power. If you pull your tongue back, it can block your airway.

If you want to learn to sing it is really a two-fold process. First, there is the aspect of knowledge, not only about the voice and how it works but also certain tips and tricks that will help you avoid pitfalls, protect you from creating bad habits and increase your ability to sing—and all this more quickly than just doing some vocal exercises that may or may not be the right kind. Although singing isn’t the most difficult skill to learn, it’s definitely more complex than it seems. To some learners, singing comes naturally and they can create beautiful vocals with very little practice or effort.

Before you rush to figure out what type of singing voice you have, there are two things to keep in mind. Firstly, if you’re a male under 22, or a female under 20, then your vocal range is still developing and you won’t know your true voice type until you’re a little bit older.

Jenine explained how to read music very simply, and gave me step-by-step lessons on how to practice reading it until I became fluent with it. She really helped to make sense of it. Do as many or as few hours per day as you want. Practice and study whenever you want, not during the allotted hours of a tutor. Save time and money by being able to learn from home, and not having to travel for singing lessons.
How great is it to play your instrument and sing to your songs with confidence. Singing along with your instrument adds an extra dimension to the experience. You now have two instruments (your voice is also an instrument) that complement each other.
