There is no way you can know as much as the man or woman who will be your Teacher, but you should educate yourself enough to be able to tell who might actually be well-versed on the subject of singing. After you get used to it you’ll start to be able to hear how good your voice truly is, and this is where recording yourself becomes a powerful secret weapon. You can hear where your pitching is off and then correct it next time. You can hear when your enunciation isn’t quite right and then improve it. You can start to form an objective opinion about how good a singer you are.

To practice tone and breath control, select a note that is easy and natural for you to reach. In a single breath, begin singing the sound and a soft, low volume. Gradually build up your volume until you reach your maximum comfortable volume, then gradually revert to your original, softer volume.

Pollen season or other allergies hit, you get rear-nasal drip, and it drips down to your vocal cords and irritates them. Prescription allergy medicines can overly dry out your cords. Instead, clean out your nose with saline then line it with vaseline or its equivalent. This prevents the allergens from getting into your system and setting you off. This won’t help after an allergic reaction, but do it first thing in the morning as a preventative measure during allergy season.

You really are better at anything you do when you do it with confidence, I haven’t haven’t sang in a while since I lost my guitar but I use to have half@sssd confidence in it. I started singing again tonight and was confident anything is achievable if you set your mind (also had a lot of complements about my ability which helps) and I have been singing better then I ever have before, all day today. When you don’t believe in your abilities you don’t give it your all, the key is believing in yourself completely so can give it everything you have, without sabotaging yourself due to worry that your best isn’t good enough. Your mind is your own best friend and worst enemy.
A quick look at local colleges versus Ivy League institutions will show you there can sometimes be a huge gap between those Teachers and Professors who have studied a certain field and those who have actually lived it. It’s wonderful to have a degree that makes one more educated about a specific subject, but it’s those who have actually succeeded in the business as Background Singers, Session Singers, Opera Singers, and so on who often make the best Teachers. They know what is going on in the real world and not just in a book or a classroom.
Practice hitting the high notes. High notes are the icing on top of the cake: not always necessary, but really wonderful when done right. You probably already know your range by now, so you also know which high notes you can hit and which ones you can’t. Be sure to practice hitting the ones you can’t yet reach. One last point, and this is a big one. In general, if you are doing anything for your own pleasure, keep in mind you don’t have to be good. (Although I know how great the “being good” feels.) The only person you’d be in competition with is yourself and yourself past, and you’ll always be better than your past as long as you keep practicing, just as good as your are now. Instead of saying, “Holy cow, I’m bad at this,” say, “It was[…] not bad, but there’s always some room for improvement.” And no one better than you would say you’re bad at something. If someone says you’re not good, they’re not any better than you at that or something else. And anything is possible.
Man, I’ve seen a lot of questions here like that and I think the best way is to get an teacher. It is my oppinion. I think we can learn by ourselves but an experient teacher can make you progress faster and in the correct way.
Am trying to figure out my type of singing voice I have. I can sing and inmate other singers voices and even when they singing in auto tune I can do that or make my voice sound like auto tune without the auto tune. Does anyone know about this please tell me I would like to know more about this type of singing voice I have.
Andrew, I don’t believe anyone can teach you how to sing. You have to teach yourself – the same way that you learned how to eat and speak and walk. You have to find your singing voice and then develop it – just like you found your balance on two legs and then learned how to run. Also you cannot be shy about it – it won’t work if you are.
So what exactly should you record yourself singing? The answer is: your repertoire. That’s a fancy term musicians use to mean “the stuff they know and perform”. As a singer it just means a collection of songs you’re confident singing.
Keep in mind though not to practice for long periods of time. Aim for anywhere between 30 to 60 minutes each day, and stop practicing as soon as you start to feel vocally fatigued, or ideally right before.
Breath Relaxation: Releases tension often associated in the breathing mechanism that can interfere with effective voice production. Ordinarily, if there is tension when breathing, that tension radiates to the voice box muscles. Take a normal breath and then exhale. Make sure your shoulders and chest are low and relaxed. Repeat many times making sure that your breaths are focused low in the abdomen and that there is not associated chest, neck, or shoulder tension while breathing. You can place one hand on your abdomen to remind you to keep the focus low and away from the chest and shoulders. Hold an “s” sound like in hiss when you exhale.
