Your voice is a delicate instrument. While a pianist can practice for hours upon hours every day, singers cannot. Why? Unlike other instruments, the entire vocal apparatus is a sensitive part of your body.

Now let’s move on to what the different types of voices are. There are five general categories of voice types. Three are for men and two are for women. We’ll list each voice type here along with a short description of each.

You make use of the chest voice when speaking. This voice can be used to produce a rich, full-bodies sound. Higher pitched notes are produced by the head voice, and it’s more often than not created by female singers. The middle voice acts to some extent as a bridge connecting the head voice and the chest voice. These three types of singing voices are the fundamentals of singing. You must first learn this fundamentals before you can start practicing. You should as well ensure you have a plan to follow, so that you can learn how to sing correctly.

Your singing voice is greatly affected by your posture and state of muscles. This is why it’s imperative that you avoid putting your body under tension. If your body is in any way distressed, it will be reflected when you sing and your singing voice won’t be excellent. Being relaxed will help you sound very good when you sing. The posture to adopt in order to achieve an excellent voice when you sing is to stand erect, look forward, keep your shoulders relaxed, and space out your feet so that they are parallel to your shoulders. Ensure your back is straight. The right singing posture will help you to avoid unnecessary muscle tension and thus making your singing sound very good.
I start every lesson with vocal warm-ups. Then we learn different techniques to increase range, posture, and breathing. I can make song recommends and we work on songs that the student wants to learn. I set up video for my students to see and hear themselves. I accompany the student on either the piano or the guitar.

Even professional singers have to practice everyday to maintain their level. Singing is an exercise, and to do it well requires practice. If you want to go run a race, for example, you train beforehand. You run daily, stretch, read about running, and immerse yourself into a sort of running world. If you do run a race without training, you might simply run out of breath and have to walk. You might even have to stop altogether, or worse yet, you might get injured. In the same way, you shouldn’t attempt to sing at a ‘trained’ level until you have practiced, reflected, stretched, and actually sung quite a bit on your own or with a tutor or instructor. Only in this way will you excel.
This happens because your voice actually sounds different to you than other people. This is due to the physics of sound being carried inside your body as well as outside through the air when you hear it. When you hear a recording you are actually hearing what other people hear when you sing.
This can be intimidating and unnerving at first – but it’s still less scary than singing in front of other people, right? You can be alone in your room to do it, and the only person who’ll ever hear the recordings is you. So there’s nothing to be embarrassed about.

Just like everyone else, I started searching online for techniques on exercising my voice without having to pay anything. The web is full of information. All the answers to my questions are there, right? That’s not exactly true.
Many singers that we hear on the radio today are professional. Are they actually ‘trained’ in the art of singing? Only a few are actually reared to be singers. Others might have a natural singing voice, which does exist, and is enough to get them by at their professional level. Others might be great songwriters and even play a few instruments and have a strong enough voice and message that entices the public. But, do they actually know how they are producing those sounds that are appealing to their modern day listening audience? Maybe.
Okay, let’s talk for a second about the two different types of vocal lessons. The first are vocal warm ups. These are great for the purpose they serve, which is to wake your voice up and prepare it for more strenuous activity—singing! They are great for maximizing your current vocal ability and range. Vocal warm ups can be compared to stretching before working out or before a race.
All of the courses themselves are great and will definitely take you leaps and bounds beyond where you are as a singer right now. All I can really say is DEFINITELY get one courses at least. And if you’re anything like me, you’ll want to get all three and learn everything you can because.. well… you love to sing.
The cost of singing lessons depends on your method of learning. For private lessons, you can expect to pay anywhere from $10 to $75 per half hour. The rate is typically based on your location and a teacher’s level of expertise.
Note that we’re not yet getting anywhere near singing a song! Before you can step up onto that karaoke stage you need to make sure you can do this one simple thing: match pitch with your voice. After all, if you can’t sing one single note in tune, there’s not much hope that your belting rendition of Bruno Mars or Whitney Houston is going to wow the crowd, right?
Basically, the throat needs to relax. The best way in accomplishing that is to get the tongue out of the way. The base of the tongue is the cause of most of the problems in singers the root of the tongue lies right above the vocal folds which creates a lot of issues.

Breathing is also an important factor in singing. You will produce a pleasant tone if you work with your breathing. Conversely, singing at the same time as you’re out of breath will result in you exerting too much tension on your voice and may eventually lead to injury. If you want to achieve an excellent tone when singing, then you must breathe deeply (don’t inhale with your mouth, rather use your nose) through your lower lungs and exhale using your nose and mouth.
