If you’re sitting, the same things apply. Move to the front half of the seat, and keep both of your feet flat on the floor. Don’t cross your legs. Keeping your body in line allows for more control and sustained singing without strain. Try to keep your back straight, and avoid touching the back of the seat.
A. To a certain extent. And to a certain extent it’s a PR myth. This is how I like to answer that “born with it or not question”…the best and bravest singers are singers first, and students of singing later. Kids who like to sing never shut -up and therefore they grow. The intuitive development gained by singing throughout childhood, i.e. vocal strength, timing, an ear for harmony, and an ear for matching instruments cannot be made up for later- unless they perhaps master a musical instrument as a child. Good singing is more than a great sounding voice. This is why there are successful pros who may not have the most amazing tone, but really take the house down.
I am an opera singer who has experience teaching multiple genres including pop, rock, jazz and classical. I create monthly plans for my students and teach them techniques to feel in control of their singing and confident.
Practice breathing exercises. Try the book method, which is practical and kind of fun, too. Lie on the ground and place a book on your stomach. Sing a comfortable note, and when you are exhaling/singing, try to make the book rise.

One of our main goals as TakeLessons teachers is to help students grow. We teach students not only to find their voice, but to develop and refine their methods of expression. Every single individual I have worked with personally has expressed to me the positive effect that their voice lessons have had on their lives, sometimes in unexpected and amazing ways! Whether you are an experienced performer or have never taken a music lesson in your life, we at TakeLessons will find the right teacher for you and help you to reach your dreams through positive effort and encouragement.
Join a local choir. If you cannot afford a teacher, or do not want the dedication that comes with hiring a professional voice coach, consider joining a local choir. You might associate choirs with church, but you can find them across a number of different organizations. Choirs are a great way to learn about singing and meet cool people who share your love for music at the same time.

My name is Kailey, and I’m 27 years old. I am a graduate of Abilene Christian University with a degree in Music (concentration in Voice). I have taken voice lessons ever since the age of 13, but I’ve been singing ever since I was in a crib. I’ve learned many things along my journey, and I would love to help other singers realize their full potential.

Practice hitting the high notes. High notes are the icing on top of the cake: not always necessary, but really wonderful when done right. You probably already know your range by now, so you also know which high notes you can hit and which ones you can’t. Be sure to practice hitting the ones you can’t yet reach. Practice will make perfect.
Many vocal auditions, competitions, and scholarship opportunities are based, at least partly, on a music theory exam or assessment. So learning music theory also opens up opportunities for you as a music student and a competitor.
Joel is a great teacher. He has patience, keeps on track, gives good feedback, and knows all kinds of music. He has taught me bass, and vocals. He is a very good, reliable, professional… all the stuff you look for in a teacher.

I take a physiological approach to singing… after all it is a physical endeavor. The voice or larynx, despite all its complexities, is just another set of muscles that can be trained to reach its fullest potential. The method that I teach, The Franco/Italian Bel Canto Method has been taught in Europe for more than 200 years and has produced the worlds greatest classical singers. Now having said that let me assure you studying this method doesnt mean that you have to become a classical singer. The techniques used are designed to strengthen and improve the quality o

break in coaching and confidence in my singing ability was very shaken. Enter Ania in August 2016. Her first challenge with me was to get me “out of my head” and getting me to relax! She continues to work with me on basic breathing and placement techniques, recognizing and following rhythmic patterns, dynamics, pronunciation ( a BIG challenge for me!). She is very adept at scaffolding and structuring exercises designed to address specific weaknesses in your singing. She readily shares her love of music with calm confidence and expertise. I

The Internet is a big place. There are so many websites, videos, and blogs for singers of all ages and ability levels. Sifting through them can be daunting, but having too many helpful resources is a good problem for students and teachers alike! Here are just a few of them:

Envision jumping as you hit the high note. Perhaps you’re jumping onto a trampoline, or maybe you’re just jumping up into the air. Imagine hitting your highest point as you reach the high note. Take an adequate breath and keep your mouth open. Hitting a high note doesn’t mean you need to increase how loudly you sing.
This is not a problem as it better suits a more rocky, harder edged sound that I prefer to give when I’m performing live in the band. But I lose out on the softer songs I was once able to cover well.

Michelle was a FANTASTIC instructor! 🙂 I had a really hard time choosing instructors but I am so glad I picked her. Without much prior singing experience, I auditioned and made it into the fifth best choir in the world but I couldn’t have done it without Michelle‘s help! People in the choir were surprised that I was auditioning in without having been in a chorus before. She really knows what she’s talking about and is encouraging and uses every minute of the lessons wisely. I can’t believe how much I improved in just five lessons! Definitely would recommend Michelle!
We’ve all had one at some point or another – a bad audition. You prepare like crazy for that singing competition that you swear up and down you’re going to nail. However, despite 30 minutes of scales first thing in the morning and an entire day in line spent practicing, you walk into the audition with your head held oh-so-high only to walk out feeling like your head was handed back to you on a lovely silver platter. Below are a few singers who didn’t quite measure up to the singing competitio
