Here are a couple of basic things a singer can do to start building a bigger voice: use correct breathing method, engage vocal resonances and master singing on clean stationary vowels.  There is a common misconception about how to breathe.  Some believe that a singer needs to expand their ribcage out horizontally while inhaling.  That is incorrect.  This will result in various issues such as limited vocal range, pitch problems, a wobbly shaky vibrato and more.

Drink lots of water, take a bath, use tiger balm on your neck (have someone massage your neck muscles if possible) or go to an acupunturist and rest your voice. To practice tone and breath control, select a note that is easy and natural for you to reach. In a single breath, begin singing the sound and a soft, low volume. Gradually build up your volume until you reach your maximum comfortable volume, then gradually revert to your original, softer volume.

There is no way you can know as much as the man or woman who will be your Teacher, but you should educate yourself enough to be able to tell who might actually be well-versed on the subject of singing. You want someone who understands all things music, as well as how the human body works. Knowing even the bare minimum can be helpful when selecting the instructor who will prep you for auditions and school admissions events, which can be some of the most nerve-wracking and demanding processes for young talents.

get a private tutor to teach you the basics after u know the basics u can learn on your own. that’s what I did and it worked out amazing!!!! u need someone to start u off so that you know the notes and tuning.

As I mentioned, in the beginning stages, before you’ve enrolled in a full-time singing or music college degree program, you shouldn’t have to spend too much of your hard-earned cash on vocal coaching. You’ll end up paying for exactly that once you are accepted into a university. If you have unlimited resources, go with a super expensive Teacher who has the prestige of once topping the charts, but if you’re not in the one percent and you need to watch where your pennies go (especially since you’ll likely be spending them later on anyway), it’s fine to look for someone who fits your limited budget.
Pay attention to your emotions too. Do you feel happy? relaxed? tense? anxious? angry? Ultimately singing should make you feel positive – in either a happy, envigorated or relaxed kind of way. If you don’t feel uplifted, keep trying different body moves.
Once you get the hang of extending the vowel sound focus on listening to the qualities of it – eg. volume (can you produce loud or soft?); pitch range (can you make the sound high or low?); pitch constancy (can you hold one pitch? Can you visit other pitches in the same breath?)
You’ll need to summon a bit of grit to work through those first few awkward days of recording yourself. Almost everybody hates the sound of their voice when they first hear it on a recording. One of these shocks will be how much everything costs you, especially as someone who probably has limited means because you’re just kicking off your life as a professional Vocalist (or as a student, when financial matters can be even worse). Just as Actors all need to pony up and pay for things like headshots and acting lessons, you’ll need to do the same for a Vocal Coach (among many other items), and you may be surprised at how much they can run you.
You are supposed to blend in when singing harmony so that’s perfect. To make your voice more distinctive sing on your own more to develop your own style. To make it louder work on your breathing and relaxing your neck but keeping your chest lifted during singing.
The best way to learn to sing is to regularly take classes or lessons from an experienced teacher who can give you the personal instruction and attention that you need to advance in your skills. Another important necessity is to be dedicated to daily practice. With both of these in your routine, your voice will grow stronger, faster.  
Depending on who you choose and what they have done in their past, your Vocal Coach may be able to help you get some actual gigs. They may also know someone at an institution of higher learning who could further your vocal education and training. I’m not saying former professional Singers are the only instructors worth hiring but they have a very valuable skill set that others won’t have. It’s worth investing some time and energy into finding somebody who has earned their bread and butter with their voice as well as with their teaching.
Not all singing lessons are created equal. If you have a specific singing style you would like to learn, look for it on your potential teachers’ lists of specialties. Examples include Broadway, country, gospel, classical, jazz, opera, choir, music performance, stage performance, musical theater, and ear training.
As you might expect, young teachers just getting started are likely to recognize their limitations and charge less than instructors with years of experience molding up-and-coming stars in Los Angeles or New York.
Correct breathing for singers begins with a spontaneous open breath.  Upon inhalation, if ones hands are placed on the stomach – an inch below belly button, the hands will be pushed out by stomach muscles.  The singer’s shoulders should be relaxed and not move up.  Neck and jaw should be relaxed.  Jaw needs to be unhinged.  Phonation begins with the movement of the stomach inward, where one is singing while pulling the stomach muscles in.  This is called “singing on the breath.”  The phonation ends with the release of the abdominal muscles.  It’s important to note that phonation should be ended with the release of the abs and not in one’s throat, which is vocally abusive.
I’m sad to leave when our two hours are up yet I’m also on a massive high: all that air flowing through your body gives you an endorphin rush not dissimilar to a session in the gym. Have I mastered singing Don’t Stop by the time I leave? Far from it, but I feel I’ve gained a good grasp of the basics. And although I detect an element of sarcasm in my wife’s comments when I get home – “bloody hell, it’s Scott Walker!” – it’s undeniable that a whole range of previously unattainable baritone notes has been opened up to me.

Many vocal auditions, competitions, and scholarship opportunities are based, at least partly, on a music theory exam or assessment. So learning music theory also opens up opportunities for you as a music student and a competitor.
Beyond that, improving your singing tone is best done with the help of a professional. Humming: Highlights anterior frontal vibrations in your lips, teeth and facial bones. Begin with lips gently closed with jaw released. Take an easy breath in and exhale while saying “hum”. Begin with the nasal sound /m/ and gently glide from a high to a low pitch as if you were sighing. Don’t forget your vocal cool down after extensive vocal use. Gently humming feeling the focus of the sound on the lips is an excellent way to cool down the voice. You should hum gentle glides on the sound “m” feeling a tickling vibration in the lip/nose are.

Keep in mind though not to practice for long periods of time. Aim for anywhere between 30 to 60 minutes each day, and stop practicing as soon as you start to feel vocally fatigued, or ideally right before.
Not all Vocal Coaches are Voice Teachers and vice-versa. A Voice Teacher is a technician: our main focus is on singing technique and the nuts and bolts of teaching a singer how to produce a healthy, powerful sound. To do this, Voice Teachers give an understanding of breath support and resonance by guiding students through vocal exercises and breath exercises. We help students put that technique into practice in their repertoire. A Vocal Coach, on the other hand, is a Pianist, Conductor or Music Director who is an expert in a chosen type of repertoire. They coach the student’s songs from the standpoint of interpretation, intention, genre, and musicality. They are generally not trained singers and, while they often have some knowledge of vocal technique, it is not their primary job to teach a student how to sing the song nor are they trained to fix the vocal issues giving a student problems in the song. It’s their job to help a singer take their interpretation and performance to the next level once they’ve worked the technique with their Voice Teacher.
Hello, well I’m 17 and a dude and I really do love music and the way I can connect to it… but I also have severe anxiety and am so nervous about anything and everything…. It’s fascinating stuff, and not a single second of our lesson is wasted. Even when David asks me about my journey to his place, it ends with his pianist Katie saying “Hmmm, interesting” and playing David a trio of notes on the piano. “The reason we had that conversation,” he explains, “is so I could work out where on the scale your natural speaking voice falls.” We spend the last half hour focusing on my karaoke song. I’ve picked Fleetwood Mac’s Don’t Stop because I love Christine McVie’s plaintive voice and the song’s range seems limited enough for a novice like me. Yet there are many other things I overlooked, from needing to think about who the song is addressed to (and picking a similar situation in my life to focus on), to the fact that the verses are densely packed with notes, which makes the rhythm tricky.

Then you can start learning more demanding and challenging vocal music, and you will have an opportunity to learn, practice and rehearse with some structure and some goals in mind, every Wednesday night and Sunday morning, for free.

You won’t go to the hospital for drinking salt water. Salt is in everything. Sure if you drink it in an excessive amount you might get a little sick/dehydrated but that’s it. Other than that good tip for helping soothe a sore throat.

This is how I like to answer that “born with it or not question”…the best and bravest singers are singers first, and students of singing later. Kids who like to sing never shut -up and therefore they grow. The intuitive development gained by singing throughout childhood, i.e. vocal strength, timing, an ear for harmony, and an ear for matching instruments cannot be made up for later- unless they perhaps master a musical instrument as a child. Good singing is more than a great sounding voice. This is why there are successful pros who may not have the most amazing tone, but really take the house down.
– Even though the lessons are very affordable compared to face-to-face lessons and compared to other online singing programs, 99$ is still a large amount of money, so think for yourself if you are really into singing.
The next step is to learn to control your voice as you move from note to note. This is what allows you to sing a whole song and stay in tune with accurate pitch throughout. Without this skill you might sing your first note correctly but then hit the wrong note next or gradually go off key. If you’ve ever seen a karaoke performance which starts off strong but sounds worse and worse as the song goes on, this is probably the step which that singer skipped in their training!
