I finished the Superior Singing Method course two years ago, in early 2015, and it was really the kickstart to my singing. It did not only promise, but also delivered a tremendous improvement in my singing and made me confident, for the first time in my life, to sing in front of other people when I play music. And I wish I can let you feel the feelings you get when you get those “wow, you got a great voice!” sincere comments from people around – but you’ll have to try it for yourself and see…

You really are better at anything you do when you do it with confidence, I haven’t haven’t sang in a while since I lost my guitar but I use to have half@sssd confidence in it. I started singing again tonight and was confident anything is achievable if you set your mind (also had a lot of complements about my ability which helps) and I have been singing better then I ever have before, all day today. When you don’t believe in your abilities you don’t give it your all, the key is believing in yourself completely so can give it everything you have, without sabotaging yourself due to worry that your best isn’t good enough.
For instance, these lessons cover such topics as berthing properly, expanding your vocal range, teaching yourself how to reach that “whistle” range (like how you see those singers do on TV). Even more advanced concepts such as blending vocal registers and boosting your vocal power without straining are also covered.

A vocal coach is sometimes responsible for writing and producing vocal arrangements for four-part harmony for backup vocalists or helping to develop counter melodies for a secondary vocalist. Some vocal coaches may also advise singers or bands on lyric-writing for a music production. Lip Trills: Release lip tension and connects breathing and speaking. Releases tension in the vocal folds. Place your lips loosely together release the air in a steady stream to create a trill or raspberry sound. First try it on an “h” sounds. Then repeat on a “b” sound. Hold the sound steady and keep the air moving past the lips. Next try to repeat the b-trill gliding gently up and down the scales. Don’t push beyond what it comfortable at the top or bottom of the scale.
Okay, back to pitch. We’re going to sing center of pitch. What a lot of you are going to do, you’re going to slide into that note. You’re going to ah-uh-ah (sings at varying pitch). What I want you to imagine is, you’re going to aim right for the center of the bullseye. (Sings ah). And you want to imagine coming to it from above. Why is because the actually soft palette, which is inside the mouth, needs to lift for you to be able to hit center of pitch. That gets a little bit technical, but you can start taking lessons with a vocal coach to experience that more, because it’s really exciting when you start to make those changes and be more accurate with your pitch.
Correct breathing for singers begins with a spontaneous open breath. Upon inhalation, if ones hands are placed on the stomach – an inch below belly button, the hands will be pushed out by stomach muscles. The singer’s shoulders should be relaxed and not move up. Neck and jaw should be relaxed. Jaw needs to be unhinged. Phonation begins with the movement of the stomach inward, where one is singing while pulling the stomach muscles in. This is called “singing on the breath.” The phonation ends with the release of the abdominal muscles. It’s important to note that phonation should be ended with the release of the abs and not in one’s throat, which is vocally abusive.
So far I sing Fly Me to the Moon by Tony Bennett and Frank Sinatra we’ll, still need to work on Dynamics, and Soft Attacks on the Power Phrases, but my instructor wants me to learn and practice Against All Odds, holy moly that song is very hard for me, not sure what is holding me back, I realized tonight that the phrases are a lot longer and there is less time to breathe in for the next one, any Suggestions ?? My mind is stuck in trying to impersonate the artist and duplicate their sound vs using my own natural voice.

The most important thing I learn, though, is how to breathe properly. When David first asks me to take a deep breath, I instinctively puff out my chest while my stomach contracts. “We’re taught to be tense, to hold ourselves in,” he says, before explaining that the proper way to breathe is to relax, take in air deeply as if into your stomach, and then use this to support your voice as you sing. Breathe in through your nose, then plug your nose with a free hand. This is how it should feel when you sing. Practice singing without feeling the exhalation of the breath in your nose while you sing.
Begin with the solfege symbol “do” while singing the pitch. Hold out this note to the extent of your comfort. Then, sing and signal the note “re” while holding it out. Then, go back down and sing the note “do.” The object is to move on and sing from “do” to “mi,” then “do” to “fa,” then “do” to “so,” then “do” to “la” then “do” to “ti,” then “do” to “do,” or as far as desired.
In addition to noticing your diaphragm move, think about your jaw, lips, tongue, cheeks and upper palate. Are they relaxed? What size and shape is the cavity inside your mouth? What happens to the sound if you change it? Make very small changes to consider the effects. Does it please you?

This doesn’t mean that you have to practice for long periods of time. Make shorter practice sessions strategic yet fun! Create your own silly warm-ups — try singing with “nonsense” words, or make a simple song your warm-up.
Pollen season or other allergies hit, you get rear-nasal drip, and it drips down to your vocal cords and irritates them. Prescription allergy medicines can overly dry out your cords. Instead, clean out your nose with saline then line it with vaseline or its equivalent. This prevents the allergens from getting into your system and setting you off. This won’t help after an allergic reaction, but do it first thing in the morning as a preventative measure during allergy season.
The A-O joint – Your very top vertebra, AKA the “atlas,” forms a joint with the bottom of your skull to support your head. Balance your head on this joint (the A-O joint) so that you are neither looking up or down. A properly balanced A-O joint reduces neck and jaw tension.

To practice tone and breath control, select a note that is easy and natural for you to reach. In a single breath, begin singing the sound and a soft, low volume. Gradually build up your volume until you reach your maximum comfortable volume, then gradually revert to your original, softer volume.

Sing “do mi so mi do” while repeatedly singing the word “ha” on the notes. Ascend the word “ha” on the notes “do mi so,” and descend the word “ha” on the notes “mi do.” Sing this warm up in staccato, meaning, making each and every note short and separated, yet with control.It is best to place your hand on your stomach to make sure you are doing this exercise correctly. Each time you say “ha” while making sure the breath is coming from your diaphragm, you should feel a slight shaking feeling in your stomach, and the hand that is on it.

Humming: Highlights anterior frontal vibrations in your lips, teeth and facial bones. Begin with lips gently closed with jaw released. Take an easy breath in and exhale while saying “hum”. Begin with the nasal sound /m/ and gently glide from a high to a low pitch as if you were sighing. Don’t forget your vocal cool down after extensive vocal use. Gently humming feeling the focus of the sound on the lips is an excellent way to cool down the voice. You should hum gentle glides on the sound “m” feeling a tickling vibration in the lip/nose are.

3 stars because it doesn’t always work… all the sudden my pitch won’t show up on the screen…. that it kind of the whole point. This seems to be because of a sort of crackling that makes it try to decide between a really low pitch or high pitch and it ends up just giving up. I would blame this on the headphones, but they’re from Apple and do very clear audio recordings. Or it just won’t work at all. But normally, the dot will move and twitch between a really low pitch and the pitch I’m actually at
The key to this exercise is to make sure you are listening carefully as you practice. Don’t just rely on the tuner’s display. Try to always hear whether you are too high or too low before checking the display. That way you are gradually developing your own inner tuner so that in future your feedback loop can work directly without the assistance of a digital tuner.
Many vocal auditions, competitions, and scholarship opportunities are based, at least partly, on a music theory exam or assessment. So learning music theory also opens up opportunities for you as a music student and a competitor.

I’m sad to leave when our two hours are up yet I’m also on a massive high: all that air flowing through your body gives you an endorphin rush not dissimilar to a session in the gym. You’ll need to summon a bit of grit to work through those first few awkward days of recording yourself. Almost everybody hates the sound of their voice when they first hear it on a recording. You need to remember that this is most just the discomfort of unfamiliarity – it’s not that your voice or singing is bad.

Most kids and teens get started singing naturally because they have an impulse. School districts or religious communities with choirs that practice 3-5 times per week are the best places to develop the young singing voice.
