But doing a regular regimen of the right vocal warm ups and the right strengthening exercises on a regular basis, along with applying the knowledge part, the tips and tricks of singing, you will move quickly toward being the singer that you really want to be. And while it’s not super easy per se, it is simple. If you apply these things you will become a better singer.
I teach students of all different ages and experience levels. I studied violin for about 2 years, studied and play mariachi for 18 years, and studied voice for 6 years. I can teach students to read music and pursue a career in mariachi or classical music. I can also teach students how to play any of the mariachi instruments (violin, trumpet, guitarron, vihuela, guitar) and teach them how to sing, as well.
We all know those few amazing singers who are famous for their wide vocal ranges – Mariah Carey for her five octaves, Ariana Grande for her full voice and head voice notes, and Toni Braxton for those low sultry notes.

These steps start from scratch and build up your singing ability in a logical way towards singing real songs reliably in tune. After taking these four steps you will understand clearly how to sing in tune. You may not be the next Pop Idol superstar but you will know for certain that you are always in tune and perfectly pitched each time you open your mouth to sing.
Begin by aiming for just a 3 song repertoire. Pick three songs you like and which are in your comfortable range. It helps to memorise the song lyrics so that you have one less thing to think about as you sing.
Applying this one thing alone with increase your singing ability tremendously, immediately. And there are tons of other tips like it—some that you wouldn’t even necessarily think are connected to singing.
The good news is, “YES!” You can learn how to sing, and if you already sing a little bit, you can learn how to sing better. That’s the short answer. Let me take a second to explain why this is the case.

Singing isn’t a mystery, it’s just not taught as a skill that can be obtained on your own. Many people believe that you are either born to sing or you are not. This just isn’t true. Everyone can ‘learn’ to sing. Once they have a greater understanding of the methods, then they can apply what they have learned to practical exercises that will help them along the path to reaching their voice’s harmonious potential.
Keep in mind though not to practice for long periods of time. Aim for anywhere between 30 to 60 minutes each day, and stop practicing as soon as you start to feel vocally fatigued, or ideally right before.
Our speaking voice is always inside our comfortable singing range, so you can treat this as an “anchor note” or a starting point for exploring your range. From this note, try sweeping up and down in pitch with your voice.

Think of practicing singing as you would exercise. Exercising every day improves your coordination and muscular ability. Using your voice every day improves the coordination and muscular abilities involved with breathing, lifting the soft palate, and relaxing the rest of the body.

After studying and practicing some of the methods, you won’t necessarily be ready to sing professionally, but you will have a greater understanding of singing and be able to judge, work, and practice with your own voice so that you can find your own range, style, and tone that will work well with whatever you hope to do with your newfound skills. Learning to sing takes a long time, but anyone can do it.
Keep in mind that if you’ve never taken singing classes or lessons, you will have a much more limited range than a trained singer, especially when it comes to the upper range. So be careful not to wrongly label your voice as “low” until you’ve had some proper training.
To other singers, a lot more practice goes into achieving that pitch-perfect sound. A good singer must master breath control, posture, diction, stage presence, and more important techniques. Don’t be discouraged though – with the right guidance anyone can learn to sing!

Remember to practice even on your busiest days. As with physical exercise, even a 10-minute workout each day is better than nothing. If you have a commute, try practicing in the car. If you don’t have much time alone, ask your voice teacher for a few quiet exercises that you can do.
Your singing voice is greatly affected by your posture and state of muscles. This is why it’s imperative that you avoid putting your body under tension. If your body is in any way distressed, it will be reflected when you sing and your singing voice won’t be excellent. Being relaxed will help you sound very good when you sing. The posture to adopt in order to achieve an excellent voice when you sing is to stand erect, look forward, keep your shoulders relaxed, and space out your feet so that they are parallel to your shoulders. Ensure your back is straight. The right singing posture will help you to avoid unnecessary muscle tension and thus making your singing sound very good.
